Well it's that time again thank goodness. I wouldn't say summer is here but fishing season is upon us. Finally got good enough weather to put the wharf in and yes it's not pretty but neither am I. Won't be long before the little boat I have is tied up to it and then the fun begins although some of the nicest fish I've caught were standing in the boat fishing tied up to the dock.

Yesterday 2 guys on snowmobiles were ice fishing about 100' off shore in front of my place. They said the ice was still 2' thick when they augered the holes.

I've had enough.

First week: it starts thawing at the creek adjacent to our beach.
Second week: it thaws around the shoreline as the snow pack melts
Third week: the ice starts getting darker and darker
Finally, one sunny day the ice starts disappearing fast. Gone in 2 days, one if there's a wind.

Step 1 has just barely started. ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Mandatory tractor content: I've been using the FEL and toothbar to scrape away at the ice in the drive in the hopes I can at least get a motorcycle out soon!

In this area, fishin' season started last April 28th......

Crappie in the middle of the summer, evenings usually. Crappie in the late fall, rainy season, so you have to fish between showers. Then the rest of the year it's about anything and everything else. In the mid-summer, when it's nice & hot/humid, I find it relaxing to make a road trip, and wade fish for smallmouth, rock bass, and whatever eats. There's some trout there too. The rivers are full of trout and they'll bite all year long but it's the late spring/early summer when I prefer to fish them-as it's not too hot yet, but warm enough so that when you get to the river, it can be 90° at the top of the ramp, and by time you're at the water, with a breeze it feels like the a/c is turned on. Just a great experience. The White River below Bull Shoals dam is famous for trout fishing; and where I prefer to launch/fish, the scenery is absolutely stunning. And the best part, for me, is that the cell phone does NOT work for about 10 miles either way of the ramp. No crazy ex's calling, no bosses calling, no group text from work, etc. I hear there's a few walleye out in that stretch of river too but I ain't never caught any. They're a rare catch here, in any body of water-mainly because of all the dang bass that will eat anything and everything you throw at 'em, so it's almost impossible to keep them off the hook. I don't eat bass (nasty) and I could care less about them. Give me a walleye or crappie any day over a dad gum bass. I'd just as soon slit a bass's gills and throw 'em up for the coons, but I don't think it's legal so I just throw 'em all back. Trash fish.

I prefer the fishing access below the dam at Norfork myself. But its also really close to where my family lives up there. But you got to time it with the generating cycles for best results. Then it's just a matter of tossing a hook up stream with some power bait, and letting it drift down with the current. Time it just right with the water levels and your not fishing for trout. Your just catching trout as fast as you get your line back in.

Only time I liked bass, was when we were looking to keep the kids occupied for a bit. Then we would take them out in the boat and look for boils. Then the kids would wear you out removing fish from there lines and baiting the hooks. I'm not a fan of fish in general, so it's just catch and release for me anyway. Maybe a couple pics for bragging rights :D

I'm not a big fan of trout however a couple times a year my friend and his wife come for a couple weeks and we bone them out and have trout and eggs for breakfast or fish cakes made with trout. I'd have to say striped bass, not too large but just around the legal size are my favourite, makes beautiful fish and chips. Maybe you guys could post a few a few picture of the waters you fish, always good to see some new scenery.

I know this is an old one, but I did a search for Norfork and this came up. I bought a place not far from Norfork and will be moving there this spring. Dang sure looking forward to the fishing! ( and hunting, a lot of deer and turkey on my place )

you're very fortunate to have the opportunity to do that. It was my dream to own a piece of ground along the river where we would often fish. I'd been saving $$$ to buy it. Seller and I had a verbal agreement that when I had the money, it'd be mine. Well he sold it a month or so ago, crushed that dream. I'm still gonna be on the lookout but property like that is impossible to find which makes it valuable. People are spending $300,000+ per acre to buy on the Little Red. It's crazy. The place I wanted was on the Sylamore. 79 acres on both sides of the creek. Investors bought it and are already clearing the trees from the banks for rental cabins.
