L4610 I just bought this and I have a leak. Probably an ounce a day. Can I remove the hitch plate and replace gasket? Not real sure if this is where it is coming from but oil is dripping from the bolts? Is the hitch plate an inspection cover? P1070084.jpg

Clean and degrease. Ruin the machine. As soon as you see a sign of a leak, sprinkle baby powder and gently blow off the excess. It will only stick to areas that are wet from the leak. At the highest point of the leak will be the source. Then you can figure out what is wrong.

The leak will not be the hitch assembly, it will probably be the rear PTO cover or PTO seal. ;)
Pull the hitch and look for the leak.

I've never looked close enough under my tractor, would those bolts go through the case or in to cast blind holes? If they're through, the oil could be leaking down the threads. There is a special loc-tite for wet bolts that seals more than holds the bolt, can't remember the number right now. it's purple, I use it all the time at work. Also if they are through holes, when you pull one out have a bucket ready, or drain the case first to be safe.

I'm assuming it's a used tractor with no warranty left?

Good luck!

If I pull the hitch plate will oil come out? I am going to change all fluids but, will use old fluid to check for leaks. It is an old tractor bought as is.

Those should be blind hole so no, no fluid should leak out of them.

It is possible that one was either miss drilled /tapped or the cast had some porosity in it hense you now have a leak, pull the bolt in Question and if there is a constant drip or pour of fluid that's the issue.
Reinstall the bolt with pipe thread dope and it will seal it up. ;)

If you pull the hitch off you could check for a crack in the case too. ;)

Wolfman, I think I have narrowed it down to a seal or seals at the rear Pto shaft. I am going to pull the hitch plate off and see if I can see exactly where the leak is coming from. The shaft itself has a "wobble" in it when running. Maybe a 1/16th of an inch off center. It started to leak after I put my snowblower on. Can a seal or bearing be worn if it has not been used? The tractor sat idle for a few months and I am not sure if the Pto was ever used. Thanks

Not really wear from non use, but they can get stiff from old age.

And the "wobble" is pretty normal, you see that on most PTO's.
