Re: Help!

You are welcome SD.

It is a good thing you recognized the potential issue.

All the best.

Re: Help!

Just curious, what would happen if he didn't catch this and ran the tractor? Would it be catastrophic?

Re: Help!

Depending on what weight motor oil that he put in, it could potentially cause damage to seals and affect operating temperatures of the transmission. It could also clog some of the smaller fluid passages and thereby adversely affect lubrication of the whole hydraulic system.

Re: Help!

SD.

Don't feel that way. I would bet there are a few of us on here that have had one of those moments.

Here is one of my favorites...do you know what happens when you drive into a garage with the ROPS up and the door is too low? The tractor stops fairly quickly, you have a case of whip lash, and you get the tools out to start rebuilding the door. LOL.

Cheers.

Re: Help!

When it comes to hydro transmission filters I would not cross over to another brand and I'll show you why. This is high pressure filter for an L3940. My son had a some flow issues after putting on the WIX/NAPA. Also on the low pressure size the magnet off the old Kubota filter will not fit in the recess of a WIX/NAPA. He gets a very nice fleet discount through NAPA but will not use their hydraulic filters.

WIX/NAPA crossed over by me and the Napa dealership. Obvisiously WIX took a filter for some other application and screwed on an adapter.

Re: Help!

Whilst I don't like the adapter, the surface area of the open holes appears to be greater than the area of what would be the open area of spigot that screws in.
I know someone who had a builders machinery hire business, they used one diesel engine oil in EVERYTHING they hired out. No oil mix ups. They didn't have tractors though, but the properties of good diesel engine oil work. Mobil sell Super Tractor Oil Universal (STOU) Lubricant, one farm, one oil. One reason - The engineering in Mobil Agri Super 15W-40 meets the diverse lubrication requirements of this equipment which reduces the number of lubricants required and the possibility of misapplication. I use 15/40 diesel oil in my hydraulics and hydraulic drive line of my trencher. Whilst it may not make the grade, and it's best to have the correct lubricant, I doubt you would have caused any damage had you not realized, as it was only a percentage of the main fill.

Kubota also recommend UDT or SUDT in many of their applications for a single use oil for the entire drivetrain/hydraulics, I expect a little something else could make it work for the engine as well....... but perhaps that's stretching it too far as engine design and lubrication requirements change.YMMV
