Does anyone else with a B2650 ROPS version (or any other model I suppose) notice a decrease in idle rpm as they get on the tractor? Seems like every time I put my weight on the step/floor (when climbing onto the tractor) the idle speed drops a bit.

I know it sounds strange, but it happens all the time. I don't notice any real change in rpm when it's running above idle and climb onto the machine.

I know exactly what it is. Mine does it also. Noticed it when I first got the tractor. Asked the dealer. The throttle lever comes up right by the steering wheel, with linkage going down to the pump. When you climb up, it just moves the lever and linkage a little bit to have the change in rpm. Perfectly normal.

Dirty - - just for giggles, make note of the tachometer RPM's to quantify the drop when you get on it.

I should have qualified my answer by saying that on mine when you climb up it is pulling on the steering wheel not stepping on the deck that causes the change in rpm. The throttle lever comes up thru the dash where the steering wheel is, thus the change.

First, sorry, never could figure out the multi quote thing...

RCW- will do, I want to see if the rpm drop can be seen on the tach

Orangeglow- I have not tried from the other side as the loader stick makes it difficult to climb on from that side...I don't recall seeing a step there either.

RKidd- That must be it. I do think I was grabbing the wheel. I'll check on it again tomorrow since some snow is in the forecast and I'll be plowing with it. I'll have to try it without grabbing the wheel. At least, I'm not the only one that's noticed this so that's a relief in itself.

I've only had mine for a little over a month. I thought I could detect a change in the engine sound as I stepped up, then thought it was me just turning my head the other way and hearing the engine from a different direction.

Rkidd - who would think that, but sure does make sense!!
I was thinking more along the lines of sounding different from side versus the seat, etc.
Guess I was way off!!

For sure RCW. I had not figured it out. I was at my dealers, and told him about it. We went over to one and started it up and he just grabbed the steering wheel and gave a little pull and it did it. He kinda knew what it was I think. It is very slight difference just when you grab it to climb up on the tractor. Doesn't happen any other time.

Kidd — funny thing for you.
Getting on my BX tonight for snowblower duty....RPM’s change.
Sitting in the seat, pull the steering wheel, and they change again.
Tractor was ~1,560 RPM, would get to 1,500 just by pushing or pulling the wheel!!
I’ll be darned..!.!. Never noticed that before!!!
Lesson learned for me, but it makes sense!!

I have noticed this happen whenever I climb onto my B2650 as well. I have to clear some snow tonight and will be conscious of whether I am grabbing the steering wheel and the change in RPM.

My new B2650 does this as well. Happen once thought it was a fluke. Now it’s happen 5 times in about 8 hours. Is there a fix for this or are we stuck with it. It’s happen twice while operating not just climbing on/off the tractor.

I am pretty sure all that it is, is that the throttle lever is mounted with the steering column. So if you pull or tug on the steering wheel, it will pull on the throttle linkage and can run the rpms up or down. I sat on mine the other day pulling and pushing on the steering wheel after posting about this, and you can make it do it. I have never had any problem with regular operation of the tractor though.

I'm with rkidd, and I have a BX.

It's not hurting anything, it's just the way the linkage goes.

Hell, I hadn't noticed it until this thread, and I've had my BX2360 for almost 5 years.

I confirmed yesterday that the RPMs on my B2650 will drop slightly when I climb up from the left side (opposite the control stick) and pull on the steering wheel but only if the throttle is above its lowest setting. So my guess is that pulling on the steering wheel translates a force to the throttle lever or internal connections that pull the throttle lower but only temporarily while the force is exerted.

It doesn't bother me and I don't need it fixed. I'm just glad that I finally know what causes it and that there isn't anything to be worried about.

Mine does the same. As stated before, try getting in and out of the tractor without touching the steering wheel.
