First winter on the east coast. Not too bad so far, compared to where we moved from in Muskoka, Ontario where as torch described, it's been in the -30 to -40c range. Here, the coldest night so far has been a -25 with -33c wind chill.

Not nearly as much snow here (yet). Only around 6 to 8" so far.

Yet being the key word. Just a couple dustings here so far but when it starts there will be plenty to go around. Like they say, too cold to snow.

It's sneaking back down again; -26° right now.

Good weather for building the rink. I've been flooding it every 2 hours all evening and through the night. I'll have to quit if it gets much colder though -- if it gets too cold the water starts freezing too fast and leaves ripples instead of flowing out flat. My boots are already starting to stick in place as I walk like some kind of cartoon quick-dry cement.

Kubota content: I blew the snow of the lake with the tractor and then leveled things out with the FEL before applying water.

We are lucky here along the shores of Lake Michigan... the air picks up heat coming across the lake. The lake warms us in the winter, and keeps us cool in the summer. So the lowest I have seen this winter is 3*F, and this morning it is 8*F. The other side of that is the air picks up a lot of moisture coming across the lake, and dumps it in the first 15 miles or so of shoreline. For December, it has been quite cold and snowy. It sure is beautiful outside though. Most don't seem to like it, but I love seeing the snow in the trees, and when you come inside the nice warm house after being out in the cold... it feels so good.

Distribution blower on pellet stove shit the bed Saturday morning.

Was going to Binghamton anyway, so made a stop at stove store. Got a spare Combustion Blower while there.

Back in business by noon Saturday - good thing - was -12F Sunday morning, and froze a couple pipes.

Good thing that blower didn't go Sunday - stove would have been out of commission until today.....WHEW......

Highs of 0 or so Friday Saturday - lows -10F or so.....with wind - ouch....

No wonder a lot of the "Service" posts are about no-starts, gels, etc.....

Too friggin' cold!

We haven't been that cold. Low 20's during the day, and high single digits at night. Haven't had any frozen pipes. But did have a frozen drain on the master bathroom sink. Think it's because the faucet has a slight drip allowing ice to build up.

Was able to dissolve a bunch of rock salt in a gallon or so of water to thaw the drain. Drain happens to be on a north exterior wall. I did have to pull the J trap and drain the line in order to get the boiling water and salt to where it needed to go.

Daren- common thing up north is to leave sink cabinet doors open when it gets real cold. Keeps water and drains from freezing.
Probably don't have to worry about that often down there, but it does work.
Usually a water drip helps keep them from freezing, so betting you have a cold air leak near the drain. Cold enough to freeze the trap.

You forget I lived 20 years in Vermont :p The drain giving us issues is on the north side of the house on an exterior wall. I've always been leary about that one. Bordering on paranoia :D Cabinets were open as well as the bathroom door since we are running the wood stove. That's why it caught me by surprise when the sink backed up.

First thing I thought was we had a clog in the J trap, so I pulled it. Everything was fine and thawed inside the cabinet. Figure the issue is low where the siding meets the slab.
