MMM blade removal

I have a BX 2670 with a 60'' MMM. What is the best way to remove the blades so I can sharpen them? I tried to search but didnt see anything on it.

My 2360 is a 30mm socket.

Removal works best for me with an impact wrench. Air or electric work well. Keeps from having to block it.

Attachment for me still needs old fashioned way, with good sized breaker bar and/or 1/2" torque wrench to 100 ft/lbs or so.

Ditto to what RCW mentioned..........otherwise you need a long cheater bar and great pair of vise grips!!!

Before I bought the 30mm socket, I would take two screwdrivers and place them in the small holes on top of the spindle, place a long pry bar between them, then get back and place the cheater bar back under, all the while trying to hold all that stuff in place!!!

Impact is the way to go!!!

Just to be clear, impact should be used for removal only, IMO. I take mine off with an impact, but never put them back on with one. Not saying putting the blades back on can't be done with an impact, but if you screw it up and things aren't lined up just right, it ain't gonna be pretty.

I went to take the blades off someone else's mower, would not budge. Ended up using a 3/4 impact, needless to say it needs a new shaft & bolt. Not sure if it was cross threaded or just really over tightened.

When replacing the blades with an impact, usually my DeWalt 20V Max 1'2" I always get the bolt started well using just fingers and get the blade and stepped washer lined up. Then run them in with the impact at a low speed till they're gripping the blade well.

Get a pair of ramps that you can drive up onto. Makes getting under it way easier and safer. They're decently affordable from most auto parts stores, and since you don't have the weight of a car, you can get away with the cheapest set.

Thanks for all the input. I have the deck off for the winter. I was trying to figure how to hold the blade and loosen the bolt. Thanks again.
