I am needing some ideas on where to put a fire extinguisher inside my cab. I had one on the rops of my old tractor but it clanked around all the time.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Tractor is 7060.

As a general rule of thumb, fire extinguishers should be located beside an exit -- that way the fire can never get between you and your escape route.

Expanding on that principle, since the fuel and engine are the most likely problem areas, the best place would be outside the cab on the rear of the tractor, however, just inside the cab door would keep it in easy reach but out of the weather.

I screwed mine into the side of the dash towards the floor facing the door. I have a M6060

My suggestion is on the floor standing up on floor near right door.

Attach to screw or bolt securing dash low down.

Most right doors are not used especially if you have a FEL.

By having it stranding on the floor but stabilized by the dash, most of the forces are carried by the tractor floor.

You may need to make a simple aluminum bracket going form the lower dash screw to the tractor floor to secure the Fire Extinguisher bracket to.

If you need an incentive to get and install a fire extinguisher here is a local combine which blew a hydraulic line.

Odds are, a fire extinguisher would not have done any good in that situation. Once get a fire going on a piece of equipment fed with hydraulic oil and diesel fuel, a single fire extinguisher will amount to nothing. Any extinguisher less than 10 lbs won’t carry enough to amount to anything.

I will here remark, that having a dry type fire extinguisher mounted vertically can cause some problems. The dry chem can and will settle and over time actually pack in the bottom of the canister. And if ,gawd forbid, you need it all you might get is a puff of retardant and a huff of gas. So if you mount one vertically on some thing that vibrates like a tractor, then it is a very good rule of thumb to remove it and turn it up side down several times when you check the gauge, thus loosening the dry chemical inside. This is something I was taught by Kidde way back in the day, also there has been a huge recall on some extinguishers just recently. So you might want to check on that as well

In light of situations of diesel run-a-way in a few Kubota's (Crankcase breather hoses freezing and then crankcase pressure forcing oil up turbo drain line and now the engine is running on crankcase oil and no longer controllable) having a CO2 extinguisher as well could easily stop the run-a-way.

I did not mean to imply the combine fire could have been managed by the operator rather how fast and serious fires can become.

I have had small fires from squirrel nests built around my turbo.
