I have a B7510 with 60 belly mower. Sucked up a log chain last week. The incident stopped the mower cold and shut off the tractor. I climbed off and un-taggled the chain and started the mower back up. It mowed fine for an hour and I was done. Parked unit with no problems.

Following week i mowed again, for about an hour and then out of nowhere, for seemingly no reason the mower suddenly shut off again. This time when I re-started the mower the mid-pro would not engage.

On inspection the mid-PTO will free spin in any gear (neutral, 960rpm or the rear setting). I've looked at all the linkages and everything seems to be engaging. Fluids all look good.

Any ideas where to start? I'm hoping a inner shear pin busted or something. Still looking for the service manual online as well.

Thanks in advance.

Is the lever MOVING into the position? OR will it not go there? IF it is moved as far as it should ......you may have internal problems.

if the lever will not go all the way,
have you tried "grinding" the clutch a bit? I know that sounds bad - but every now and again, the clutch and or the slide will not line up. SLipping the clutch a bit can sometimes allow the gear to slide into the other.

Lever is moving into position and looks like all is in working order just not power to mid pto. I'll see if I can grind the gears and help it into position.

In the mean time, I found the full service manual and relevant diagram. Looks like the spindle has a few close internal gears and that whole lower assembly will bolt off pretty easy.

Drained hydraulic fluid, took off PTO housing on bottom of unit. Everything looks fine. I'm now looking at the PTO switch located behind the rear, driver side tire. Are their any fuses that run the PTO system????

The switch is part of the operator safety system, has no bearing on engagement. You have to disassemble tractor to locate what broke. You will need to separate between rear axle center housing and transmission housing.
