I take it the charger is for a 12v system to start it only? Or ?????

You need a charger? or maintainer?

How to choose the right forklift battery charger?

Is it an electric forklift? They are usually 48 or 36 volt batteries. The charger has to be for the proper voltage.

Ideally contact the mfr of the forklift with model number of forklift AND battery. otherwise contact battery mfr with battery information. I know the charger I have requires a dedicated 240V, 30A circuit and it took all night to recharge the batteries, $$$$$ ! Had a 'powerpole' connector system, easy to use and safe.
You can also use Google 'battery model, charger' and see what hits come up.
Try a local forklift sell/repair shop....
