So are some of you ready to watch the eclipse? D2Cat I think you get to see it as total, us Michiganders not so much.

Pretty much dead center of it here. Party is already planned, eclipse glasses already bought, food prepared and in freezer, booze/ice/mixers stocked. Even if it's cloudy or raining, we're gonna have a good time.

I guess the ideal path through here is St. Joseph, Mo. That's 100 miles North of me, so in the grand scheme of things... pretty close!

I heard on the news motel rooms are full and prices are ridiculous.

My sister-in-law lives in the path of totality and relatives are flocking to their place. She wishes she could be gone for it.

Only 88% in OH.
I have my #14 welding mask ready.
May make a pinhole viewer as well.

Stand under a tree and look at the ground. All the little spots of light through the leaves become pinhole cameras. There will be eclipses all over the tree shadow dancing on the ground.:)

Last time we stood outside the bldg at MSU and the pinhole projector worked, but couldnt see the tree effect. No trees in the parking lot big enough maybe.

We were coming back from lunch, and I had never heard of, or considered the possibility of the pinhole effect from trees. But as we walked under a tree I noticed all the eclipses on the ground. It must of been in 1994 as Wikipedia says we (Lansing - you and Bay City - me) were over 90%.

This time I will be fishing in Montana and will be 95%+ a little better then home in Lovells at 80%.

Seeing it in total here. The news is saying that 100's of thousands people are traveling to Nashville to see it.
My youngest daughter and I will be making the trek from Northern Virginia to stay with relatives there to catch the event.

1994 sounds about right. Have fun fishing! Trout? Do you get to eat some?

I must be pretty close to imnukensc. Pretty danged close to the center. They are saying this could be the biggest event ever for the city. Not planning any parties or anything, just plan to stay home all day. Traffic will be horrible, and cell towers will probably be overloaded. Since it's a total eclipse that will be cool to see, other than that I'm not all that interested.

And it is true! For the non believers there is nothing like seeing things in your own back yard!

My primitive viewing apparatus: aluminum foil, manila folder, and the patio chairs, sun in and out of the clouds

And the shadows with crescents under the trees! Since you are not here Grouse Feathers, I photographed them. I feel like "yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"! The picture furthest to the right is a "control", same part of the road an hour later, no crescents.

Here are the best of the pictures I got of the eclipse:

These are taking not to far from the center line of the eclipse path about 60 miles south of St Louis MO. My wife and I stayed home from work today to watch the eclipse. It didn't get as dark as I thought it would, but it did cool down some. 86 was the low I recorded and just before it started it was 91.

Here is our set up for watching and taking pictures. There is a dishtowel over the body of the camera, it was getting hot with it being in the sun for so long.

Cool pictures mdhughes! For most a once in a lifetime experience. My dad used to talk about seeing Halley's comet.
