Well, my Post Title says it all. My 2660 suddenly has been overheating but the temp gauge is not registering any movement off COLD. Any thoughts on what to check? I've been able to deal with every other challenge with advice from this forum! Thanks!

Use an infrared digital thermometer and check temperature at upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, and back of head. This should tell if your gauge is OK or you have other problems.

If you don't have one, you can find them a Wal-Mart, Harbor Freight, etc. less then $20.

Thanks! I'll start there. The IR therms are really affordable these days.

D2cat offers excellent advice - one of the best tools you can buy for your machine. Hell - you can use it to cook by on the grill too!;):)

And thermostats need to be immersed in fluid to respond, so if you have a leak and fluid level is below the sensor and it's sitting in air/steam, you won't get an accurate reading and can overheat and seize your engine.
My radiator split open and dumped all coolant on my 6 cyl ford (car), I was idling along in first gear and engine stalled. Engine temp gauge was not in red, but engine was!

Make sure you have fluid. If that's not the issue find the temperature sender and make sure the wiring is good.
