Finally got this thing off and did a little happy dance after.

I cut as far as I could with angle grinder. Cut the rest with small dremel tool. Put a wedge in the cut and hit it a bit with a hammer. Hammered it off ok after that.

Called omnigear support and spoke with victor. Very helpful. Got the following on the rc30 gear box:

Breather plug. 140033
Front seal. 060061
Snap ring. 200199

Ordered new series 4 pto shaft. Hopefully will be good to go when parts arrive! Thanks for the support.

I like the extractor idea and I would use a heat gun and soften the plastic up, This should allow you to remove it some what easier with out the plastic falling in the gear case.

Good idea with heat gun. Mine came out easy with no damage.

Anyone think anti seize is ok when I put the new shaft on? Or maybe just lithium grease?

Thanks.

Saga continues. Much cursing. Got new pto shaft. Cut new pto shaft. Went to put on brush hog and it doesn't fit!! No wonder I had cut the God forsaken thing off! The brush hog shaft is 1.496 inches. Inside diameter is 1.475 of series 4 smooth bore pto shaft. What did I do wrong besides assuming the proper shaft was on there to begin with!

What pto shaft am I supposed to have here??

Signed,

About to have new brush hog!!!!!!

Well took a break and thought a bit. Decided to just bore out the inside of pto shaft a bit.

No small bore so just dremel and stone but.... slowly making progress.

Got the shaft on after boring it a little.
Snap ring was a little to thick to fit in slot. Maybe a 64th. Don't have a belt sander but sanded it down proper thickness with a hand sander. Went to put snap ring on and snap ring pliers were maybe a 16th too small to get the ring around the shaft. I ended up filing the stops down so I could expand it a little more. Finally got snap ring and pto attached.

Definitely not horse shoes or hand grenades. A whole slew of almosts and a few hours of finagling but I have persevered!

Great news!

Be sure the blades will move on their pivot bolts to allow them to swing into balanced positions

OMG, sounds like you went down about 10 miles of bad road to get that thing up and running.

But in the end isn't it much more satisfying to know that YOU got it going,
and didn't shell out a thousand bucks for a new one, that probably isn't made as well.

Just sayin...

Congrats!

Thanks fellas. Glad I have a place to write down my tribulations but more than that, writing it out is therapeutic and bonus of you folks offering suggestions.

This is my first tractor, was my first time bush hogging, my first time really running her all out. Still got a lot to learn. Glad I read on here to clean radiator often. Did it maybe three or four times and it was nasty!

The brush hog did great. No vibration, pretty quiet and despite the beat up blades I doctored up best I could it cut the stuff down.

I know why people love draft. I was riding that three point lever!

How high the backyard is:

About to give it hell!

After, forgot I was building that chicken coop! Forgot where I left it!

Thanks all!

Thanks. Yes very satisfying not spending 900 dollars or so! Boy I was close. My wife told me to go do it! I couldn't drop the dough! I would have been giving up after all this work. The brush hog came with the tractor and it wouldn't have been as a good of a deal if I had to buy a new one!

Man, I'm so glad you didn't give in and buy a new hog. It would be nice and all but you persevered and it paid off. I've put alot of hours on a little Kubota like that and they just. keep. running.

Thanks for the online diary of your travails and ultimate triumph.
