Hey guys, I have an M5660 and I would like to bleed the fuel system. According to the manual you have to loosen the air vent plug on the fuel filter. I'm having trouble locating this. Could anyone tell me exactly where this is? In relation to the water separator, where would it be located?

Fuel filter, if tractor is laid out same as my L3560, is forward relative to water separator, same side (right hand), and the plug is on the top towards rear.

Ok thanks, will check there. Won't see tractor till next Sunday though. On a related note: how often do you have to drain the water from the separator? My tractor only has 8 hrs on it and the separator looks to be full already. Is that typical?

No, but someone else had that issue on a new tractor, it may be condensation from sitting on the dealer's lot. Do attend to it, the injectors don't like water, and it will grow algae in the lines.
There are pictures and directions towards the back of the manual, there is a fuel cut off lever on the water separator. May as well clean water separator if you have to bleed fuel line. Why by the way? Kind of early to change fuel filter.

Some of us use a Mr Funnel water filter funnel when adding diesel to the tank to keep water out, and also keep tank topped off to decrease surface area for water to condense on.

Open the hood and look right above the oil filter, thats where mine is located (L4701). Vent is on top of the filter housing.

Sounds as if you also need to remove water from fuel tank BUT I saw no fuel tank drain when I viewed the M5660 parts schematics. Moisture in fuel tank can contribute to the growth of Algae.

Won't emptying the water separator be sufficient? Repeatedly, if necessary?

To be on the safe side, you could add an algicide to the fuel tank as well as draining water separator as needed.

Well, I emptied the water separator and successfully bled the system today. But after I was done I looked at the separator and the red ring was at the level where it says it needs to be emptied still. When I took the cover off the separator there was a spring laying in there. Hard to tell exactly how it
's supposed to be situated in there. So now I'm wondering if there was ever really any water in there. Anybody have any insight on this?

The spring goes from the bottom of the glass to the bottom of the filter on inside of the hole in the red ring (spring should be standing on it's end).

The red ring should only float on water.
