I'm nearing 50 hours on my BX and called the dealer to see about having them do the 50hr maintenance. He told me it would probably be $450-$500 as he thought they also had to drain/repalce all the hydro fluid and I would need 5-10 gallons. In addition its $150 charge for them to do onsite or $65 each way for transportation. I'm only 3 miles from them, but don't have a trailer.

All in of $600-$750 seems like a total ripoff - I didn't want to do the maintenance myself, but at that price I most certainly will try.

Seems excessive...
Hydro fluid doesn't need replaced. Just the hydro filter along with oil & oil filter.
Then check hydro fluid level, the air filter, torque on wheel nuts and grease fittings on FEL & treadle peddle. It's in your owners manual. Takes an hour at most.

That is a total ripoff! Hardest part of this job is getting the plastic engine cowling off/on for easy access to the engine oil filter, and getting underneath the tractor for the HST filter. Which is to say, there's nothing hard at all.

By all means: Do it yourself!

I'd say do it yourself and learn about your tractor in depth. But if you're totally opposed to that get on it and "road" it to the dealer, unless the only route is the interstate!

HELLO

When you look at the dealer shop rate , it adds up fast.
Your tractor takes the following.
Filter Kit -$65
12 -qts Hyd oil $65
5- qts 80-90 gear oil for front axle $30
4 - qts 15w-40 motor oil $16
Total of Parts $176 plus tax
4 hours labor $400
$576
I am a independent repair shop. I don't charge $100 and hour.I try to spend 4 to 6 hours on the first service. I check every thing. This is the most important service. Get your owners manual out and take the time to learn about your tractor, you will be glad you did.
Good Luck Lance

HERE is the entire kit (assuming the correct model)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KUBOTA-OEM-...X25-BX2230-BX2350-BX2360-BX2370-/290799648351

$65

3.1 Gallons of HST (IF you decide to change it) about $20 a gallon (S-UDT2)

another $60

Engine oil - about a gallon ......$25

SO - for less than $150 bucks....and a couple of hours of blood sweat and tears.....YOU get to know your machine inside and out.....

Personally .....go and get 5 gallons of the S-UDT2.....get 2 gallons of the engine oil, and get a couple of filters.....WHY? IF shipped the second set will almost be free and you'll have enough to do the front axle and everything else when it comes to 200 hour service.

IF YOU drain your HST - check the screen - you may or may not find anything there!

Like it was said ......getting the filters off (all of them) is the hardest part......hood removal ........tire removal or CLIMB under!!!! Just find a clean level spot and work from there!;):)

If you have the tools and the time do it yourself. It's a good way to get to know your tractor. For some it even makes then realize how hard it is to keep a machine running at it's best and gives them even more reason to take better care of it.

Even though that price is high it could be worse. Just my hyd fluid for my 2 orange babies is $1200. Full service for the pair is about $1600 and I do the work.

And the BX owners think they have it bad. :D

Wow Bulldog, that's big $, but I know you would be the first to say dollars well spent.
To the OP, BX service is really easy as the others said.
Personally, I dumped the HST also but that is personal preference. I may do it again this fall at ~275 hours.

+2 on self service.

The oil change is the easiest I have ever done, easier than even a motorcycle. You can reach up and remove the oil filter from underneath too, no need to remove the engine cowling. Thirty minutes if you are old, stare at the wall a lot and move slow.
Grease all zerk every ten hours, that is no more difficult that filling the fuel tank (keep it full, refill at the end of each day if you ran it more than 1/2 hour). I clean all the zerks first, getting all the old grease and dirt embedded out. That takes 30 minutes (FEL and BH), then ten minutes with a grease gun.
HST filter, I drive the tractor up a steep incline, the back tires still on the flat. Crawled underneath, remove the HST filter. Because of the incline, 99% of the fluid had back flowed into the trans. No drips, no mess. New filter on. Ten minutes.
Really not hard.

BX gets new HST fluid at 300 or so hours, the hard part is having a drain pan big enough.
Check tire pressures every few months, and definitely once it gets cold.
Everything else, I do in piecemeal fashion. Check this, look at that from time to time, it does not have to be an all at once ordeal.
