B2650 break in

New to the forum and tractors. Just took delivery on a new 2650. I know from previous adventures there are differing thoughts on the best way to break in an engine. It was the one question I forgot ask during the delivery tonight. I am in the process of reading the book also.

It is going to be used on 5 acres of flat ground that is 95% pasture. Our property is 214' x1056' so it doesn't take long to travel the entire length.

Very impressed by the 60" finish mower, breezed right through a test patch that 12-18" tall and soaking wet as it was the typical PNW spring weather today. Wait 10 minutes and it will change.

Dont run the engine at maximum RPM

I'm an 89 year old graduate engineer: I've seen these warnings and advice for all sorts of equipment. Yet, I have never seen any documentation that "giving it hell" ever caused any problem. My theory, if it can't be run like I want to, I don't want ti.

Moral - don't go Balls to the Wall, but use it for its intended purpose.

Run it like you stole it,,, ya got 3 years if she goes south, but to be honest they are designed to run hard out of the box,,,, vary the RPMs up and down then give it hell

I kept mine below 2100rpm for the first 50 hrs....the bright side is, this motor makes plenty of torque and I still rarely go above 2100 rpm!!

I kept mine below 2100rpm for the first 50 hrs....the bright side is, this motor makes plenty of torque and I still rarely go above 2100 rpm!!

I kept mine below 2500 RPM for the first 50 hours but got very close to that because I needed at least 2400 RPM to move snow with my front mount blower. I changed all of the fluids and filters and noticed nothing out of order and the tractor is working fine many hours later.

Rookie Farmer - I have the exact same question and it does not appear we can get much more than keep it below maximum RPMs for the first 50 hours...

The problem is - what is maximum RPMs for the B2650? If the engine is rated for 2500... then 2500 cannot be the maximum.

My former B2620 had a redline on the tach. My new B2650 has a digital screen with the RPMs displayed in numbers... And the owner's manual talks about not operating it a "fast speed"...

But it is an awesome tractor... smoother and more stable than the B2620.

On mine the maximum is about 2600 rpms.

No tractor manufacturer says not to mow with your tractor the first 50 hours so what ever rpm's turn your three point rotary cutter at 540 rpm's is what I use for max engine speed for the break in period.
