Long story short my brother installed a new battery in my tractor Backwards...he hooked the positive to the negative and the negative to the positive. He said there was some smoke but nothing caught fire or exploded. What I need to know is what kind of repairs am I looking at now. Figure fuse box is shot but what else or should I just call a repair guy?

Thanks

What is Model of machine? Always good to know!

There should be a main fuse - or fusible link you might need to find, IF that is the only problem, you will be lucky, smoke means insulation got too hot and melted, so a wire harness might be needed also.

WHEN you hooked it up correctly, I take it nothing worked?

Depending on model, possibly expect a regulator replacement and some of this.........

Easy to let out of the wires, but oh so hard to put back!
And I've seen a lot of it come out over the years!

HAHA....ya'll should go on the road.

It's a L2550.

Fuse Box is ok, replaced all the fuses but I think the rest is above my expertise. I'm not good at electrical stuff, better at the guts of the machine.

Is there anything wrong with the electrical system? Does it charge? Do lights and gauges work?

When a good battery is hooked up nothing happens. No lights, no gauges, nothing.
There is a red wire, that comes off the starter, it has a fusible link in it. A fusible link looks like a small loop of wire that is "stuck" right in the middle of the wire.

see if this helps:
