-20 windshield washer fluid

If anyone is thinking about adding some fluid to your tires, I found Wal-Mart has the -20 winter windshield washer fluid for $1 per/gal.

I got 61 gallons at one store and 21 at another.

The 61 gallons was at a store in the suburbs of Kansas City. The department manager wanted to know how many cars I owned! I told him, "I'm not using it in my cars, I'm using it on my tractor!" He had a "deer in the headlights" look, and I left it at that.

My wife picked up the 21 gallons at a store she frequents, and she said a guy out by her car when she was unloading her cart ask if she was going to put it in tractor tires.

Just the difference a few miles make in how people live and think!

I had an entire cart full of that good ol stuff last year at wallyworld - paid something like 1.20 or so , lady did look at me a little funny at the register! I think I only had about 36 of them however!

I almost didn't drive up to pick it up because all I could see was me with one of those carts full and about three trips and too much grief!

When I got there, I went back to the automotive section and the manager was there. I mentioned I had talked to "Rick" and he had 61 gallons of -20 fluid. He said yep, they had it all in a stack so everyone could see it. He and a gal working there actually put the bottles in boxes, put the boxes on a big dolly and rolled it out to my truck.

So why do they put this stuff on sale in the Spring? The manager told me folks won't buy the winter windshield washer fluid, except in the winter!!!

This must be evidence of the effectiveness of advertising on the human mind, at least in America where we have way more discretionary income then the rest of the world.

My tractor tires are already filled, but we have lots of bugs!

I get it when it's on sale, and use it in my trucks and cars all year. It baffles me why people think you can't use winter cleaner in the summer!

Must be the difference in location and climate. The stuff rarely goes on much of a sale here and most people use it year round here because it stinks to be caught with water in your system and have it freeze up.

That's a great price. I paid right at $100.00 for a 55 gallon drum of the stuff, but I got a nice new plastic drum as a bonus I can and am using for other things.

I also found clearance sale priced -20 WWF at my local Wally World. 42 gallons for my tractor @ $1.00 each.

Got the same question from my checkout person and a few customers in line behind me.

How does one add the fluid to the tires, does the anti freeze ability of the fluid last the life of the tractor? My 85 L2250 had a salt water solution for 31 years, was eating away at wheels when sold last year.

On various forums there are guys who've used the -20 windshield washer fluid for 13-15 years with no loss of strength or other problems.

There is one YouTube video of 5:1 and 10:1 reduced with water and put in a freezer to see what happens. He compared the windshield washer fluid with RV antifreeze rated to -50.

Interestingly enough, the RV antifreeze 10:1 was froze solid, the WWF was not froze solid. The guy ended up using 5:1 reduced with water in his tractor because it did not freeze and he was located in Kentucky.

Fluid is added by various ways, from pump to gravity to squeezing the bottle with a hose attached(for small tires)! There is a fitting to help release the air while filling. Fitting cost $10-16 depending on who's selling it!!

I know this is an old thread. But just did the same thing today. Since I now have a loader on the L1501, I figured it was time to load the tires. Swung by Wal-Mart during lunch and found All season windshield washer fluid on sale for $1.50.

I needed somewhere around 24 gallons. Counted what they had on the end cap, and it came to 23 gallons. So I cleaned them out I'm one short, but I'm pretty sure I have a gallon or two at home in the garage. If not, I do have a gallon of RV antifreeze at home.

Got some funny looks pushing a shopping cart slap full of washer fluid up to the check out counter.

Can't complain though. For $40, I'll have my tires filled

Daren how you going to get it in the tires? I used one of those 15 gal. sprayers with elec pump. Works easily, just take the spray wand off and attach to your valve stem. You don't need that install/bleed tool many mention.

Len, my father in law actually had a bleed tool. He was digging through his tool box a couple weeks ago and found it and gave it to me. It has and adapter built in to a water hose. I have an old garden hose. So I'll probably cut a 5ft chunk off it and donate it to the cause.

Harbor freight has a little electric pump for about 10 bucks, so I'm gonna give that a try.

Finished loading the tires tonight. I over estimated how much fluid they were gonna take

Bought 24 gallons of washer fluid. Each tire is only taking 9.5 gallons to fill them 2/3rds full.

A 8lbs per gallon, it gives me around 150 lbs extra on the back end. Not quite as much as I was hoping for, but should help out

Are you sure those tires are only taking 9.5 gallons?
My Kubota B20 took 24 gallons per tire to fill them 75%. They don't look any taller than yours, maybe a little wider.

It went about as fast as I could empty the jugs into the bucket. I also found out that Amazon sells a concentrate that make up to 15 gallons. After I bought 9 cases of the stuff locally!

Yes. I'm quite positive they are only taking 9.5 gallons Tractor has rice paddy tires which are narrow with lug tread on steroids

Cocked the valve at 2/3 after I removed the filler and fluid started to flow out.

Wow! Amazing what a difference there is in internal volume between different style tires.

I realized where the confusion was. I actually have two sets of tires for the tractor. The rice patty tires which are on it right now. And a homemade set of turf tires which are shown in my profile picture.

The rice patty tires are 8x8.3/22 which are 8" wide and 37" tall. And mostly rim in between. Those were the ones that took 9.5 gallons. I'm gonna try to get them 3/4 full this weekend. I got 8 gallons in the other tire and the cheap pump I was using gave up the ghost

The turf tires are 36" mud tires on modified 17" Chevy rims. They would probably take 24 gallons at least per tire
