How are the L3901's? Any DPF issues or are these one working out OK?

I don't need one and am not replacing my B2620.......but I might have a deal on an L3901 and am wondering if I should grab it or not?

Early on when these engines first came out , there was a recall/mandatory campaign to solve freezing problems in the breather etc circuit that caused runaway engines, not a dpf issue per se.

Since then no one has commented. Most people are doing fine with the dpf on the 01 series.

There should be some warranty left on the dpf system, at least a year.

Thanks Sheepfarmer. I didn't realize that cc breather recall affected the base L's. I thought it was just on the Grand L's.

This tractor has only snow blowed a couple times this winter.

If I decide to get it, you'll see it here, with it's little B-rother. LOL.

Many happy owners of them, including me. Biggest complaint is the whining on the HST's.

Thanks everyone. If the deal ends up right I'll grab it. My B does everything I ask of it and I won't part with it, but if I do end up getting the L too, I'll use it for the box blading on the big hills on my bush road and save some hours off my B.
Maybe retire the B to just mowing duties.

I own a BX...my neighbor and friend liked it so much he had to one up me and he bought a 3901. It's an awesome machine. But I like my BX payments more than I like his tractor...his backhoe is a stump pulling machine!

In 75 hours ive done 3 regens. Keep the rpms up and you shouldnt have to worry about it much. As for the hst noise it doesnt bother me just like anyother hydro equipment keep the rpms up and dont worry. Havent noticed the light rear cause i always have something on the rear 3pt. Impressed me when i was able to pick up 3 yards salt spreaders and set them on the backs of plow trucks.

There is another recall we are doing this year on ALL "L" tractors with DPF. It is to install electric heaters on the hoses from the valve cover to the CCvC and from it to the intake manifold to thaw any icing that may occur. It involves installing a bigger alternator and wires to carry the added load. If it were MY tractor that CCVC would come off there and a "road draft hose" would go on to prevent this problem entirely but the tractors then wouldn't pass tier 4. ( they wouldn't freeze up either and puke their oil all out on the ground!)

THANKS VERY MUCH eserv for the heads up on that from those of us in cold climates. Finding out about campaigns can be hit or miss for owners, and often requires stopping by and asking your dealer to look on their computer.

Is this campaign covered by warranty? Will Kubota contact owners?
They are covered by warranty and both the dealer and Kubota are supposed to contact you. For the original breather insulation campaign, the tech came out as soon as the fix kit arrived and installed it in my barn, no charge, but I wouldn't have known if I hadn't stopped by to ask about something else. No notification ever came from Kubota.

In defense of dealers, I think they have to log on and check for them.

Is there a sticky thread on OTT which lists all recalls by model? Would be nice to know if my tractor should have received any updates.

These kits are a lot more work! Kubota are paying us 3 hours to do them and it is (so far) taking the whole 3 hours. There is a lot of stuff gets packed in a small space. The dealer does need to log on and check but they could lose their classification with Kubota if they don't do them. We have until Dec to get them done. Our dealership will be doing about 35 of them. We will have a lot of perfectly good alternators left over.

There is a thread stickied in the set above Tractor Operating in which on one page (4) I started a list of recalls etc. that pertain to the new engines. It is out of date, but easy to add to if someone sends me the information. A separate thread could be started for non dpf new tractors. Otherwise the info is scattered around the forum.

There currently are campaigns on almost all "L" and "m" tractors with DPF except the newest ones (M5, M6 ) There are a couple of minor ones on the M7
