12v outlet (cigarette lighter) not working...

I checked the fuse in the fuse block and that appears to be good to go.

It was working the last time I used it. Corrosion inside of the 12v port an issue?

I didn't have a chance to check it with my meter yet, or to test any of the wires to it. Anyone have some insight. At work right now, and want to have my warning light available come the next few days, if the weather predictions are even close...

Is there another in-line fuse in there?

is it possible that the device that goes IN the port is not reaching the end of the port inside?
Or sometimes there is a fuse in the device itself - old phone chargers had a small inline fuse that could be blow too.

Got anything else to plug in the port just as quick test? And like you said - could be a little rust in the port.....

I tried the warning light in a different vehicles 12v outlet, and it worked, so the warning light isn't the issue.

I wasn't able to look up inside of the 12v port on the tractor because I was in a time crunch before I had to go to work.

Figure I will get to it in the morning.

This might be a long shot - on the back of the cig plug is a typical male/female blade connector, maybe it has slipped off. Or perhaps a mouse/rat has had a "good" time!

I would still swap the fuse out. Sometimes they can look ok, but the only true way to know is with a multi-meter.

Well....here's the latest. Swapped out the fuse, checked with key on, all the good stuff. Still...very low voltage from the reading on the meter. The inside of the port didn't look bad too me.

Took some 0000 steel wool and ran it around the inside of the port and then plugged the light back in. Everything works....

Surprising, that a little bit of oxidation would cause that kind of grief.....

On a side note, does anyone have a good wiring diagram for a 3 pole switch to include a 40a relay....

Glad you solved the problem!! And glad it was an easy fix, sometimes the contact of the springy thing on the plug does NOT make good contact on the inside diameter of the outlet.

Did you test voltage after cleaning? Just curious since you mentioned there was very low voltage prior to cleaning. An LED light could still work with less than 12V, if that's the kind of light you have. If it's still less than 12V there's probably a bad wire or corrosion on a connection somewhere.

Do you mean a 3 position switch? Like an on, off, and momentary, or are you looking to switch 3 different loads at the same time?

Yes, an insight into what you intend on switching would help. A variery of switches out there to choose from.

Yeah, sorry for the late reply. I figured out a switch wiring. Had an issue with a switch and then I got it figured out.

I checked the connectors the back of the outlet itself and all seemed good. I used some di-electric grease on the inside of the outlet to help reduce the probability of anymore corrosion. The output readings I got were more consistent, considering I was trying to keep the probes on the inside of the outlet.

I was trying to get a set of lights wired up, found a good wiring diagram to include the style of switch I was using. Appreciate it folks...
