Was there any sort of sealant on the parts when you disassembled them? If not, a good application of silicone should be even better. Easy to do and nothing to lose.

Would Permatex "Form a Gasket #2" work? It's non-hardening, slow setting, but I use it for many applications.

Non-hardening would allow for flex and vibrations.

Permatex #2

I agree - silicone is fine but something like this is far better!;)

Permatex ultra black, would work the best for this, permatex #2 is sticky and would attract all sorts of dirt contamination. ;)

I removed the tiller seal and bearing from my B40C tiller yesterday. What if anything should I put between the metal parts when I replace them. I sanded them smooth already. The dealer recommended a bead of silicone??? Any other tips? Thank you in advance.
marcjewell,

I just replaced the seals on my B40C also. They were leaking BAD. The hardest part was waiting for the new seals to get here. Dealer sent me the wrong ones first time. I, like others here, used Permatex on the metal surfaces. No leaks since, and have used for about 4 hours tilling the garden area twice.
