Posting first to see if anyone has swapped controls from the std JD controls that these come with over to CAT controls? I have operated CAT for the past 12 years and think it will be easier to swap some hoses than relearn everything! If no one has done it or can offer advise I'll at least try and update this thread with what I end up doing so people can follow along in the future.

It has been done before - switching them is really not hard, but sometimes the connectors are placed in a format that one is 90ed out and on is straight - thus switching can be fun. The hard part is knowing which line is what! Some of the areas that you work in are hard as crap to get a wrench in too!!!!

I'll have to get out there and take a look at it. I had scheduled a few days off from work to do that and get some stuff done around the house, but came down with a pretty nasty cold thats kept me on the couch most of the day instead. Tomorrow is my last day off so hopefully I am a little better and can get out there! Figures anytime i schedule some time off I end up getting sick, its like my body knows that I am taking a break from my normal 10-12 hr workdays....

Is this what we're talking about? If so, which is the "JD" and which is the "CAT"?

The bottom one is what would typically be called CAT controls, or excavator, or I believe SAE controls, whereas the top is JD/Backhoe/ISO control patterns. I have grown up operating CAT and although I am sure with some time I can get proficient at them, it may be easier to just swap around some lines.

Thanks for the clarification. My Kubota B670 (American made) uses the top (JD/Backhoe/ISO) control pattern. I think you are correct, it should be easy to swap lines, the only thing I would think might complicate things is lines being too short or too long to route the same way, based on routing the lines when I rebuilt my backhoe.
Let us know how it works out.

The concerns I've seen before with doing this is not only the tight spaces, fittings, and line lengths already posted, but also if there could possibly be different relief settings.

Good call on the reliefs, I didn't think about that. I have access to pressure gauges through work so I could put them in line and see what each function dead heads at. It would be awesome if someone had a hyd schematic for this tractor. Anyone know if it is in the workshop manual? I'd guess I would have to buy one for the tractor and for the backhoe?

One more thing to watch for. Not sure the proper name for them, but they restrict the flow. Mine had them on both sides of the boom control and only one on the dipper. Just Incase they're different sizes inside, I swapped them with the lines.

At first I only swapped lines, then I went back and moved the restrictors. It does make a difference on the boom, jerky without them. They just slow down the movement, they don't restrict the pressure.

Another tip is to tag them with coloured zip ties before you take anything apart.

Buddy has a little cat excavator, and very little experience. So its always fun to flip the lever over to iso controls when hes off machine and not looking.

I swapped around the 4 hoses for the main boom and dipper stick and all is right in my world! There were no flow restrictors that I could see in the valve or line and it operates nice and smooth so I just swapped the hoses and left it at that. It seems to be working great.
