been looking at getting a PTO snowblower and trying to figure out what brands are worth buying, I see them pop up on the local craigslist here and there for doable prices

one I am looking at is northern tool nortrac brand, 50 inch blower at 1600 bucks and I find that cheap for a brand new blower
are they worth buying? anything not serviceable about them?

thanks for the input
tractor is B2301

No experience with Nortrac, but I'd want to see one up close before I plunked my money down.

I have a Pronovost Puma 64. Bullet-proof unit, zero complaints. You won't get one new for $1600 tho.

I got mine used off Craigslist, they're out there if you're willing to invest the time.

i bought a used Buhler 50" for $1200 a few years ago, it's built pretty tough. It has a three blade fan which seems to blow far enough for me, the newer ones have a four blade which should be better.

I agree Buhler seems to make a tough snow blower!

I have a 60" Buhler/Farm King with my new B2650. So far its been great, throws the snow far and I've gone through some pretty hard (iced over) snow and it didn't have an issue or break a shear pin. I paid about $2,500 for it but that included hydraulics and remote for the tractor.

Personally I'd go front mount. They're out there, and unless you're only blowing 50', much easier to use. Blowing a 350' driveway while turned around looking behind you sounds like a real pain.

Front blowers have their place but personally I couldn't get by without my loader on front. We can get storms with high winds and very cold temps that can turn the drifts into rock piles, and a blower will just ride up the drifts. But if your in warmer area I'm sure that's not an issue.

Not sure where the OP is from but just something to consider.

Make sure you get a unit that is sized to run off your tractor.
With your tractor at 17.5 PTO HP you could very easily get a snow blower that will require more HP than you can give it! ;)

Another member on another form was wanting to run a Nor Trac blower on his old Ford Jubilee and wanted comments.

I suggested he look at the most critical parts(s), of which one would be the gearbox, and call a dealer acting like you already own one and need a gearbox. Find out if its in stock for next day delivery and the price.

Many importers of the Chinese stuff, which I think Nor Track is based upon the same brand of tractor on Northern Tool's web site, don't invest in an inventory of repair parts when they bring the equipment into the USA or Canada.

You can be waiting the entire winter for parts to arrive from China and this situation is not going to get better with Trump beating on China.

Also avoid the blowers with the gearbox between the two halves of the auger like a walk behind snowblower. Owners are paying between $700 for a replacement box to $1,500 for an upgrade to an older blower to stop the frequent breaking of shear bolts.

This Canadian blower From Smyth Welding shows a high quality blower with a serious Comer gearbox. Note the auger is one piece and there is a chain drive for the blower on one end of the auger.

The design features of this blower are the same as ones for 300 hp tractors regardless of front or rear mounted.

In short, the 3 pt blower is going to be the most reliable, most common and cheapest.

Buy an American or Canadian made product and you can get parts, however, RAD technologies makes blowers for many different makes of tractor brands, They just change the paint color. These units, as a Canadian, I am ashamed to say, are not what you want. http://www.radinter.com/snow-blowers.

Note when you go to the RAD web site, the gearbox between the split auger halves.

A friend runs a 48" 3 pt blower on a 1980's B7100 HST with no problem and we get snow.

The blowers which are front mounted and are driven with the mid pto require a chain system to lower the approx 2,500 rpm mid pto to 540rpm which is the common design speed for most blowers.

My suggestion is to find some and post a few pitures and get some comments.

Dont' do what many have and buy something, have problems with ti and then come to this forum looking for a fix.

Another vote for Allied/ Buhler / Farmall.

I ran a 72 inch rear mounted unit on a Kioti, it needed 45 Hp from the PTO. It only had 3 blades on the fans on the unit and threw a good distance.

They know snow in the Canadian Prairies.

That being said , I do like the front mounted units for ease of operation.

I looked at the Allied / Buhler blowers when I was shopping, and they seemed very heavy duty and well made. I ended up with a LuckNow blower, which is also built like a tank.
I was not impressed with the Lucknow skid shoes, so I mounted shoes for a huge Allied blower on it.

Has anyone had an experience with Landpride snow blowers. Particularly the SB1064?

Loftness makes a good one. Haven't known anyone with an Erskine, but they appear to be well built.

I've used Erskine at work and they are very well built. I'm not sure if they make smaller blowers though. I've only used/seen 7'+ size blowers.

I third the Farm King / Allied / Bulher equipment. I have a 50" Farm King 3-point blower for my bx2350. It is built like a tank. I bought it because we have a 60" version at the office which is 15 years old or older and has required little maintenance and sits out all summer long. My bx handles the 50" much better than the office's 850 JD handles the 60", partially because no hydro.

No personal experience with Land Pride, but I've always heard very good things about thier products. I believe they were bought by Kubota IIRC.

I found a slightly used land pride 64" about a year ago. It has done a very good job with really wet crap, also with the crusty stuff. Some of the wet snow wanted to push more than blow, but once it got a hold of it, it was gone. It is fun watching the snow disappear.

I've seen some smaller ones, but they were pretty old. It looks like most of their newer stuff is pretty big and a their smaller models are for skidsteers.

Same one here. Works like a champ! (as it did yesterday with our 14" snow fall)

I have played with and fixed 3 brands

Land Pride
Kubota
Farm King

They will all blow snow and the will all clear the easy stuff
But when the Winter starts to fall apart and you are getting a foot of snow over night and the rain starts at 5 am the rubber meets the road so to speak

The Farm King will suck slush off the road bed and digest road gravel like a champ..

I had my neighbor who runs a B7500 and a front Kubota Blower come out one year and just stand there shaking his head in wonder as the Farm King threw wet slush off our road..

Tossing white fluffy snow 30 feet is pretty, but I want the Blower that will muscle through the crud.. For the last 10 years it has been a Farm King.
Mine is the older 3 blade lift fan, I hear the newer 4 blades are even better :)
