Hey everyone. I have a potential problem with my snowblower that I wanted to see if any of you know anything about.

I don't see any obvious bends in the blower, but the right side auger has a gap in the axle between the auger and the housing. I have attached a pic of the left and right side bearings, as well as an overall front pic.

I just want to know how to fix this if it is not normal.

Thanks,
John Vickers

I wouldn't worry about that,it's sort of a centering of the gear box on the shaft that would be a concern or issue.. From you pics it looks like the left side [me looking at it from the front] has a gap near the gear box where on the right side it tight near the gear box. On my blower I have a gap on either side of gear box. I've had mine apart a few time's over the last 20 yrs or so.[It's a old Ariens blower] and the gear on the shaft mounts over top of a keyway so that the gear box can move either way on the shaft to keep it centered in the main housing where the impeller shaft comes through. Hope that makes sense.:D

As the previous reply said, it looks like the shaft has the same gap but one at the bearing cap and the other at the gearbox.

If I were you I would release the shear bolts from the shaft and make sure everything was turning free. Then check the placement of the shear bolt hole related to each end. It might be there is a difference which gives this uneven looking setup.

Doesn't look like an issue.

Loosen the allen head set screw on the outer bearing and see if the side of the blower will push in a bit. You may have caught the side and forced the side out a bit and the set screw slid on the shaft.

Thanks for the suggestion of the set screws. I loosened them up, then used a rubber mallet on a wood block to knock the end back into place. Now I have about an 1/8" gap on both ends, with nothing around the center gear box. Final pictures attached.

Thanks,
John Vickers

More often than you would think, a member's suggestion works but the originator of the post just goes away happy his/her problem is solved and never reports back.
