Which one should I buy?

I'm looking at a factory order M7060HD with 8 speed, 1154 loader and cast rears for roughly $32,500. Today I found a really sharp 2011 M7040 8 speed with 250 hours for $27,000. The 7040 DOES NOT have regen, but is of the model that has proven to have shifting problems. So, for a $5,500 savings over a new one with no regen, should I buy the 2011 7040 with no warranty and no dealer support (buying from individual), or should I pay the extra for a brand spanking new one, 0 hours and full warranty with dealer support? Is the 7060 a better tractor than the 7040? Is it a big plus to buy the pre-regen tractor?

Advice please!

Just MHO you understand, if you can go new go for it.

If not, then 250 hours aint nuttin ( works out to about 50 hours a year) for a tractor if its been taken care of. And you didnt say if it has the loader and wheels like the new one
And the 5.5k difference you can spend on getting some other toy,, errrrrr tool I meant tool to work with :D
The regen issues has ,from what I understand, have been pretty much been taken care of, though there is one mdl that still has problems, the L 3030 I think. Either way you cant go to wrong

I would also consider warranty and free money, there is a lot of value there. New is my vote, and I did put my money where my mouth is three weeks ago.

Try to find a tractor to try that is as close as possible to the model you are considering. The new tractors have a lot of worthwhile features, and the high pressure common rail engines are nice, fuel efficient, quiet, easy to start. The dpf regeneration seems to be a non issue on the L tractors, the model skeets is thinking about that has problems with regens is the B3350, and it has a completely different engine design. There are a couple of guys on the forum with new M tractors and they seem happy with them. The down side to all the new ones is that they rely on computer modules, and so you are dependent on a dealer to untangle error codes like cars.

I have had an L3560 for 2 yrs and love it. No problems of any sort knock on wood.

I guess I'll swim upstream here. I have an M8540 and yes the shifting on the M60 is more precise than the M40, but certainly not a problem. There is no such thing as "free money", I always get a better buy paying cash. Personally of the two mentioned, I'd buy the M7040, BUT in reality, I'd skip both and buy a new M7060 12/12.

Heck skeets the number had 3's in it. You were close. :) Kubota has way too many numbers. I can't keep the older tractors straight at all.

I thought all the smog emissions crap was a PIA and had loss of power.
As much as I love new. I'd avoid the emission crap and buy the used one.

Highcountrybarry, while you're striding in tall cotton, and making money everywhere....TripleR has no payment each month.

If you take both life styles and extend them to age 75, who do you think will have a greater net worth? My guess is the guy who goes through life no making interest payments!

Oh, I know you always acquire loans with no interest. :D:D

D2Cat, you do the math. I have the use of the tractor for the 7 years of the loan at zero interest. I have that same money invested, let's say half of the 30k averaged over the life of the loan. 15k generating an average of 10-12% per year. Yes, I have excellent wealth management. I know exactly where my net worth will be.

It is all about risk! My 401k is fairly aggressive and has ranged from being -6% this year to being +12% right now. Averaged out over the last 3 years it has made about a 9% return.

Back on topic, I'd buy new. With the 6 year warranty any possible issues with the emissions system would be covered under that.

The "rule of 7" Lifetime I'd be happy to get that. I've had up years, down years, diversified investments, day traded, et al. 7% with ETF's, is a no brainer. I figured out the basics 20 years ago but there's a book about it out. Program traders pay large money for their servers to be as close as possible to the exchange servers. That's true but simplified, you won't beat the big boys.
