Re: Deisel fuel

If your asking will it gum up over the winter then no. Diesel is not like modern gasoline in that it contains no ethanol. Its the ethanol in gasoline that absorbs water and creates hell in non-fuel injected engines.

That being said, there are diesel conditioners that are designed for long term storage. Here is one example: http://www.primrose.com/Premium Se...20Hi-Flame.pdf

Really though, for a winter, 4 months on average, fill it to the top and don't worry about it. Filling it to the top will stop condensation for the most part. Diesel is a curious fluid and can absorb water and grow bacteria but if your topped off you should be fine.

I have had diesel machines down longer than that because I just could not get to them because of life. Fixed the problem and they fired right up and burned what ever was in the tank.

Re: Deisel fuel

I always add dieselkleen to mine. Anti-gel, injector cleaner, anti-bacterial, centane booster. It's fairly inexpensive, a bottle treats 250 gallons iirc. I also add it to my home heating oil. Cheap insurance, similar to the fuel stabilizer you'd put in gasoline engines.

Re: Deisel fuel

I have a question.
Is it OK to use more than 1 additive at a time Such as Peak anti gel and Diesel Stabil
If they are both for the same purpose.... then your simply overdosing it. Won't HURT it but...... won't double the help either.

For example one way the anti gel forumla works is the alcohol in the formula. It disperses any water into smaller droplets so when they freeze they still can slip thru the hoses and injection system to be burned up in the combustion chamber. ... but more alcohols than needed will lower the cetane value of the fuel and make it not combust as well.

That is an almost unanswerable question. All of these additives have different chemical compositions. So it depends on which ones and whether they interact. To find out search out the materials safety and data sheets on each, which are published online, and then find someone with a degree in industrial chemistry  Some probably mix fine but others? If you stick with ones from the same company you might be able to find out from that company.

I used the Stabil diesel additive with the Power Service diesel kleen+cetane boost.

I mixed them because the PS didn't say anything about affecting the longevity or stability of the diesel.

With the Stabil, I used 1/2 ounce to 5 gallons for "maintenance." versus adding 1 ounce for preserving the fuel. It did say not to over treat. So I think i'm playing it safe. With the PS I used 50ml to 5 gallon mix.

I also have been using the Clear-Diesel Fuel & Tank Cleaner quarterly.

Personally, I like to keep three 5 gallon containers on hand especially for the winter.

I almost did a stupid yesterday. Hadn't used the Power Service for a year and wanted to add some. I didn't have my reading glasses but thought the bottle said "treats up to 25.0gal) I started pouring when I realised it was a spot of greasy dirt and was really "250 gal"!
Probably poured a couple ounces but had enough fuel on hand to top off the tank. I guess I don't have to worry about gelling this tank.
