GR2120 Major Problems less than 100 hours!

I was excited initially about the 2120 because of the power, the zero steer, the reliable diesel and the 4wd. Well, I'm only 95 hours in and so far, I've had to rent a trailer twice to carry my tractor back to the dealer for a parking brake that failed (a common problem that I now realize) and now catastrophic engine failure! Some piece of metal found it's way into the combustion chamber and destroyed the piston! Clearly a manufacturer defect and my dealer is working to get it covered under warranty but so incredibly disheartening. I like the tractor, but geez, the main reason I went diesel was for reliabilty and now this. I'm really wondering whether I got a bad unit or whether this is a bad series of tractor from Kubota.

I bought an L-35 years ago. At 75 hours, a valve spring retainer failed. The valve dropped and punched a hole in the piston. Kubota insisted on replacing the entire engine instead of a fairly logical repair. That's one of the few Kubota machines I have had break itself. I never had another problem with that machine. I wrote it up under the heading feces occurs.

I would say you have just had bad luck with your unit!

Kubota engines are known for being very reliable, and a failure like that so early on is very, very, very, rare!

I hope they take care of you via warranty and all will be right with it!

I just turned 200 hours on my GR 2120 and haven't had a problem with the engine whatsoever. The only problem I've had was a leaky seal on the HST and they repaired under warranty and it hasn't leaked since like Wolfman said it's a rarity I've never heard anybody complain about the engine yet, hope you have good luck with your dealer.

I'm interested. What kind of metal got into the engine? I would've thought that if there was a defect of some sort causing metal to get in there, it would've had to happen within a few hours of use. Where'd the metal come from? What kind of metal is it?

I am not a fan of the GR series, not at all.

I hope your right that this is not a lemon and just a freak happening. I really do like the power, the zero turn, the all wheel drive.

I hope so as well. They seem very apologetic. Just don't want to have to go the Green side!

Lugbolt, they couldn't tell me yet. Still working on it. They've had it three weeks and the snow is starting to fly in western Pa. Seems to me they're kind of at a loss of words. I'll keep you in touch.
