Chris, it's a v1903 IDI OEM in my L 3600 4wd, 1998-99 (I'd need to look it). Not sure what to do with the engine. It is not locked up, but it will turn until the broken connecting rod binds. I thought about removing that bad rod and running it but I'm afraid it would come apart if under a load. Everything is good on it except the block, probably the crank and second connecting rod are in pieces? I'm stealing some of the parts off it since I'm looking at a bobcat engine and or a reefer unit, so I'll need the kubota specific parts for sure. I'll pm you, I need to talk with you anyway.

NO its not cheap to play with a Kubota, but so worth it in the end! ;)

Chris, yes, finally the front cover swap is underway, the old cover gasket was cracked and went into a few pieces when the cover was removed. The rear seal was already leaking, front seal was wet on the outside around the crank ring (name), the o-ring under that ring was old and tired too. O- rings at the oil filter assembly under the cover felt old and tired too, so I figured do it right the first time. The oil pan gasket was hard and crumbly so it got scrapped. The gasket material on the 2005 engine was a bear to remove. Lots of ugly thoughts during removal. I was able to salvage the water jacket gasket but plan on using "Honda Bond" to be sure it seals well. I've still gotta pull a rod bearing to ensure all is well and adjust the valves. I know I'll be putting some Honda Bond on the block side of the oil pan gasket but what do y'all think about it on both sides of the front cover gasket? If anything? The WSM calls for sealer on both sides... but with a new gasket I'm not sure?? BTW I am a believer in the Honda Bond stuff, I've used it to seal old ragged valve cover gaskets on my Honda cars and they have never leaked, the stuff is really great sealer for gasket material.

It can be quite a bugger, swapping parts like that. The last engine I did, a D722 was so much a pain that it took me 10 hours to swap front cover, oil pan and flywheel, along with clean up and painting it.

This is that reefer engine you had for the other project?

Oh no, lol, that's another project I have going on that reefer engine. This dark gray kubota engine, which I was lucky enough to find, is a low hour toro mower engine. I saw it had the fuel pump block opening, oil dipstick holes in place on both side, and a newer style engine, so I took a chance and got it. Didn't need to spend the money right now but... you know, impulsivity got the best of me along with the need to be this mess of a tractor back together and out of my basement. Ready to be done with this project, it's getting on my nerves seeing pieces of tractor stacked in boxes.

At least you are making progress.:)
I am buried in snow up to my gills. Had to do a complete tear down of my Jinma snow blower to have machine shop rebuild and reinforce the drive hub of the impeller and I had them add 1/4 inch length to the 3 impeller blades as well while it was out and they turned it around in a day and I reassembled it all again last night and did some fine tuning and customizing of a few things on the blower while it was apart to hopefully improve the blower efficiency in a couple areas. Will try it out again tonight and all day tomorrow.

LOL, my wife says differently! I have a list of honey-do projects she has been complaining about. If momma ain't happy... well you know the rest of the saying.

I do have a question. There is a collar on the front of the engine crank shaft, has a rubber o-ring under it that rides on a flat washer, this is all under the crank pulley. Since mine was leaking by the o-ring I took it apart to replace. When I replace that o-ring do I put any grease on that collar inner surface where it rides on the crank shaft? Otherwise it looks to have no lubrucation. I'll post a pic soon to show my question area.

Not necessary, when you put the rest of the parts on it the collar (race for the oil seal) does not spin.
When you put it back together, turn the collar around (or replace it) so the oil seal rides on a new portion of the collar.
