What grease do most folks use on CV joints,,,like on a shredder pto shaft. ?
I use an EP2 with Moly in it for most everything. Looking for advice from the experts, please.

Hey GWTX........At Auto Zone (auto parts store), there's 3 oz. of CV joint grease available for $2. It is moly disulfide rich, extremely heat resistant, waterproof and mixes well with other lube of its own type. Larger tubs are available elsewhere but it has been my experience that even if a CV joint boot is torn, enough grease clings to the joint interface to easily protect until a repair is made, in many case weeks later after daily vehicle use.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned "to be used in a grease gun". I'm primarily interested in greasing the big cv joint on my shredder driveshaft which has a zerk fitting on it. I could load the pkg stuff into a grease gun and do it that way. I'll look into it.

Thanks , Gary

That joint is not a CV (constant velocity) Joint, it a U joint, they are close but not the same. ;)

Just about any heavy duty grease will work. :)

This is on a 15' batwing. It has a Bondioli Pavesi shaft with a CV joint on the tractor end,,
The manual doesn't specify anything other than EP 2 grease. Which is what I use. I was just curious if anyone had any experiences(good or bad) with different greases.
Thanks for the reply,, Gary

Sorry you are exactly right, I stand corrected!

In this case yes stay with EP2 Grease!

"One type of lubricant grease used in automobiles is EP2 lithium grease. What is it ? It is a general purpose lithium-soap thickened grease for extreme pressures. Here, soaps disperse and viscosity oil to create the stable gels of greases. Lithium greases are non-corrosive and adhere very well to metal. They are also particularly great with heavy loads and have good temperature tolerances."

Wasn't intending to correct you. I'm sure you are much more knowledgeable than I am about "stuff" like this. Appreciate your help, and the info on the EP2 lithium. I'll have to look to be sure, but I think the grease I have contains both lithium and molybdenum. Thanks again,,Gary

Any ep2 grease applies. Moly grease tends to pump easier, thats why i avoid it. If it pumps easy, it runs out even easier. My preference is a heavy grease. In the automotive line any grease suitable for wheel bearings in disc brake applications is up to the task.

The runny black grease thats easy to pump is expelled in a very short period of time.

Thanks for the tip, I had not thought about the "runny" part,,,true.
