Have a M9540 and a small 1 inch long fuel hose that comes from the injector block leading to a series of check valves and other small hoses sprung a leak.
I found the part at my dealer but was curious as to what the size of the tubing is.
I'd like to replace the rest of them with some bulk hose.

Does anyone know what the inside diameter of that hose is. I measured it and I THINK it's 3/16". It seems to be slightly larger than 4mm. They want $8.21 for a 1 inch pre-cut piece.

Small hose but it leaks big time!

Here's a pic from a different tractor, same hose.

Thanks

Welcome to OTT
Have you considered installing hose clamps? That is what I did to my M7040 and so far solved hose coming off check valve problem.

Why not just take the other clamp off the "fitting" and take it with you to the auto parts house. Just tell them you need a hose to fit it! They'll sell it off of a roll of hose and the price will be less then 10% of your quoted price.

Thanks Tx Jim. Actually my hose ruptured. Not sure from excessive pressure or just wear and tear.

@D2Cat I did go to the parts house. They said they measured it and it was 1/4" so they sold me a piece of 1/4". Too big.. So much for their "expert" opinion. I'm stuck at work for 48 hours, that's why I'm asking around.

I think it could be a combination of the worn hose (it doesn't touch anything but may get hot) and a partially occluded valve causing excessive pressure so I think I'll replace the check valves and the section of hose.

Thanks all for your help.

At the local O'Reilly part store they have metric dimension hose. Since you know 1/4" is too big, here's a formula for you to play with.

1 millimeter (mm) = 0.0393700787 inch (in)

It looks like you need something like 5mm hose.

Thanks D2, I'll go there after work. I obtained a paper tape measure from the hospital nursery and it looks like 4 mm to me now. They don't have 16ths on the "inch" side but they do have mm on the other side.

If the Kubota store is near, I would just pay the $8 and get the correct part and be done with it.

You already wasted time, money and a trip going to the Auto parts store. Next trip to auto parts store will probably get you some 3/16 "vacuum" hose. How long will that last in contact with diesel fuel? How many times do you want to fix this?

Or, buy the correct hose type on-line at Messick's or Coleman Equip., I'd trust their sales people way more than Missy at AutoZone.

It's much easier to remember and work with:

1 inch = 25.4 mm

1/4 * 25.4 = 6.35

3/16 * 25.4 = 4.7625

So if it's metric I would agree that it's most likely 5 mm.

You should be able to get some 3/16 fuel hose from a small engine repair shop.

Im with ya. Got 2 Kubota places one near work and one on the way home. Got the parts on hold. It's nice to have some extra tubing just in case it keeps blowing and i have to experiment with it.

Thanks. I'll bring the check valve with me for test fit.

If the 3/16 is loose, John Deere dealers usually stock a 5/32 fuel hose on a bulk roll that is used in many applications to do with fuel return hoses. I had to get some of this hose for the return hoses that go from injector to injector and return excess fuel back to fuel tank on a Lister Petter 4 cylinder diesel in an F G Wilson genset. Could have originally been a metric size but the 5/32 pushed on tightly and did not need clamping. Pause. Just looked in the shop at this hose. It is marked 5/32 and 4mm, Gates#4219G. Marked on hose as fuel hose. I don't have the JD# info but I do remember that I bought this at a JD dealer under a JD part#.

Replaced the hose and the check valve and all is well. I can feel the fuel pulsate in the tubing but the pressure is reasonable.

Put the FEL back on and now the bucket won't move just the loader arms.

I give up.
