My BX2370 tractor will run great for at least an hour then spit, sputter, and occasionally stall. it has 168 hours on it. I have changed both fuel filters with no sign of condensation in either and bled the line afterwards. Should both filters be completely full of fuel during operation? I love this tractor, any ideas? Thanks.

This seems to be coming up more and more ......hot days and algae in the fuel!

Either you have algae or another fuel restriction, could be a cap vent restriction too.

loosen cap when sputters - any difference?

I would run some anti-algae additive in the fuel and see if it helps.

lastly - see if the fuel lines have any restrictions - remove fuel line from tank , got good gravity flow? Check each hose also. Bleeding on that model is simply holding the key for 30 seconds.

Filters should fill up also.

I didn't notice/check on my BX, but generally, I have always seen a little air trapped at the top of the filter housing (on those plastic in-line filters that are mounted horizontally).

Hi 85Hokie,
I removed the fuel line from the inlet side of the 1st fuel filter to try and drain the tank which was half full. No luck, only a small consistent drip. Tried removing the cap when it started to sputter, no change in the way it ran. Both filters are only half full when running, although it runs good for the 1st hour or so this way, RPM needle never wavers. I will try the anti-algae stuff and see if that works before I start removing fuel lines.
Thanks.

Sounds like the tank may have some debris in it blocking the line.
How hard is it to reach the fuel line at the bottom of the tank and see if the blockage is in the line vs in the tank.

Could be an algae blockage, or other debris has made it into the tank.

There is your problem - there is something in the tank (algae or something)

Either take compressed air (very little pressure ) crack the cap on the tank and blow a little compressed air back up the fuel line, do this at a very low pressure, or you'll mess up more than your clothes! OR take a small piece of stiff wire and run it up the fuel line to the tank............

you'll then have your problem solved......( if algae - it will break up over time with treatment- or something has broken off the fuel sending unit - and that aint fun at all to get out!)

which ever is the problem - the fuel should flow well after!

That was my next question, would it be safe to blow air back up into the tank to try and clear it out. Good to know that not a lot of air pressure is needed. Where can I get the anti-algae stuff? Would have been nice if the manufacturer would have put a plug in the top of the tank where fuel is drawn out. Would make the whole process a lot easier.
Thanks 85Hokie, CB, kckndrgn

Awesome. Will let you know what results I achieve with the Bio Kleen. Also going to try blowing the supply line out with air. Thanks!

I struggled with my BX and think I may have fuel problems solved. Anyhow I tried Sta-Bil biocide and suspect it caused problems, rather than fixing. Reason is the stuff is liquid at room temp, but down around freezing it solidified in its container. Seems goofy.

I finally think my fuel stoppage problems were mainly weak fuel pump pressure. Replaced with a little different design, via e bay. HEP-02A
