Hey guys doing a full fluid service on my B7610.
On my older B4200 I had no real hydraulics on it so only had to buy 2 gallons i think. so i went with the super UDT that my bota dealer reccomended.

Is there any reason not to use the hydraulic fluid from tractor supply? I am heading there later on today for some engine oil and idnt know what they sell for hyd oil but figured it may do the trick.

Also, I have a gallon of NOS kubota standard UDT. would that be compatible with super UDT, or the UDT from TSC?

Your tractor being a "newer" machine......ok ten years old, I am not sure I would place that oil in there. I know that the UDT and S-UDT2 are real $$$$$ - but if you plan on keeping that ol' girl around a while - I would not place a "universal" fluid in there. There are companies that make a product that is similar to S-UDT, and even then, I would stick to Kubota. Now having said that, I do NOT use Kubota engine oil, I know that they have someone else make that fluid, so my money is on someone that makes a oil FOR diesels....like Rotella T6, it too is $$$ but in my opinion worth every cent.

As far as mixing older UDT and newer UDT (S-UDT) and (S-UDT2) - kubota says they are completely compatible.

fair enough. I use valvoline for my diesel truck but the kubota manual calls for 10-30 or 10-40 rather the valvoline only comes in 15-40 so i am probably grabbing the rotella for the engine oil.

If you would like to save some $ but still get high quality fluid look and see if you can get some Mystik JT-5, I've used it for years, never had a fluid complaint or issue.

Mystik has a great reputation as other "name" brands - what is the typical savings per gallon that you find, Sean?

Be very careful at tsc some of the universal hydraulic fluid is only for tractors built before 1974.it will say it in the label. My local tsc sold me some highly recommended by there manager but after I changed my fluid I read the label now I need to change it again. Hopefully I haven't done any damage to the system.

Every year, newer and "more" better oils are developed - and the additives increase fuel mileage and reduce wear, and the formula changes as the years go by! The newer S-UDT2 make a difference in cold starts and lower temps, and with HST drives as the typical whine is reduced. But at the same time - older tractor may or may not benefit from all the additives, it should help, but there are those that will say that the thinner oils will leak through worn seals. The oil does not create the worn seal, but it will find it's way around that seal quicker than a thicker will.

I'm thinking it is at least 1/3 the cost if I remember right, I buy it in 5 gallon jugs all the time. ;)

When my tractor was delivered the dealer told me Kubota engine oil was Valvoline oil with a premium price.

Now that thar .....is a few pennies in savings! I wonder if the S-udt2 is made with gold flakes or something......

and I always wondered who made Kubota engine oil!

You guys that measure your hydraulics in 5 gallon buckets, I could see going with Mystic or another branded name. That would cost quite a bit to fill the sump on those bigger machines!:D;)

I wound up using valvoline blue 15W40. Its what I use in my truck and boat so I figured I would keep it all in the family and I can get away with only buying one oil all the time. keep it simple.
I mostly run in warm temps so I don't think swapping from 10W to 15 will make much a difference.
I put off the hyd fluid change till i get a chance to hit the dealer up and sign over my first born.
