Have you tried turning it with the pto again now that you have worked it a bit and added water and softened the ground?

If the auger goes down by just several more inches, it will bend my driveshaft. I always check the hydraulic fluid before I start the tractor and it was fine. I haven't seen any spilt hydraulics as I suppose it would kill my grass. I'll look at it as soon as I finish my coffee.

Ps, my phone and my pad are always pestering me about taptalk, should I install it.

I had mine stuck so bad that I had to use a friends backhoe to dig it out. It threaded in beside a large tree root. I'm sure a large rock will cause the same problem. With any luck you can find a young person who needs some spending money to did it out.

I have a backhoe coming next week to dig the holes for the trees, if I'm still stuck, he will dig it out for me.

When I try to back or pull forward nothing happens. Power steering works fine. Hydraulics are full. I can't disconnect the driveshaft as the arch on the auger has the guard plate Jamed down. have a backhoe coming next week to dig the holes for the trees, I believe at this point, I will wait and let him dig the auger out and then assess what I have. I'm certainly worried about my hydraulics.

This is what my stuck post hole digger looks like. After taking this picture, I used a post hole digger to dig along side the auger. Tomorrow I will remove the drive shafts from the tractor and then remove the pin on the auger head. As you stated, it will allow me to get the tractor out of the way. I will then turn the drive shafts backwards as suggested.
1. You need to remove the hitch off with any PTO implement installed.

2. Unscrew the rear pins, take the top pin out and then drive away; your driveshaft should separate. Use the Fel to lift up the auger, or try anyway.

3. Are those big rocks on the right? If so, you need to pay better attention while digging in your area and not let the auger go so far in so fast. I have the same problem with rocks and if I let if get away too fast, I could get mine stuck real quick. Low and slow is best.

Good luck.

Tapatalk will make navigating the forum a little easier, and if you don't like it you can always uninstall it. ;)

Follow the directions from Wolfman. Unhook PTO shaft and use a bar or wrench to turn the driveshaft backwards. This gives you a much greater mechanical advantage over trying to unscrew the auger directly. You can't get to the auger anyway. Do not disconnect from the three point hitch. If you do, the frame will pivot around the auger instead of turning the bit in the ground while turning the driveshaft. Clear as the mud you already have? :p

I have not given post hole diggers much thought before this thread - but I like to learn.

So
1) is the HP range listed for an implement the PTO HP or the engine HP?
Such as http://www.landpride.com/products/dirtworking/post-hole-diggers
If Engine HP , than the PD10 or PD15 would work on a BX2370; but if it's PTO HP they're talking about then only the PD10 would work (a BX2370 is 23HP engine and 17.7HP PTO).

2) do the PH diggers normally have a reverse direction (like a fwd-rev lever or such, to allow one to back bit out if stuck)? I see a few hydraulic PH diggers on the Land Pride site that mention the availability to reverse direction. Do any of the PTO driven models have this ability?

It doesn't take much HP, to turn an augur. The first ones were farm built, usually out of an old car or truck rear. If a ford 2n can drive one, with about 20 HP, most any kubota can run one.

In my experience, I have never run across a gear drive digger, that has reverse... Almost all slm hydraulic diggers are reversible, just by reversing the flow...

Good God man! Were you drilling for oil???
My reflexes are as lightning fast as a sloth. I have no experience with an auger and for some reason just thought I knew what I was doing. Perfect setup for many accidents. I was drilling in hard clay and when it would get a bite, it would not pull out. I know it can be done as people do it all the time.

BTW- I e-mailed this question to LandPride, and just got a response. In summary this is what they said:

"The HP ranges shown for a PTO driven implement are always PTO HP ratings.
If it is not PTO driven (like a Box Blade or such) the HP range is for the engine".

They should make them with reversible gear box. Same thing happened to me on a two man handheld. However it would not go through the hard clay had to still do that by hand few inches a day dump.some water in hole.

we finally got my tractor out with a backhoe. I have a lot of different areas with extremely hard clay. Anyway, my hydraulics came right back just as I was told. I must admit I was very worried about it. I thank everyone for their help, I could go into a lot of detail about why I choose this route if anyone wanted. :D

You got it out! Now you have a post hole, or is that a swimming hole?

You going to use that hole for a fence post?

One method is to get a load of "screenings" or crumbs from the quarry. It's the cheapest material in the quarry. Set the post all the way to the bottom of the hole. Fill the hole with the screenings and wet them as you put them in. When the material dries it will essentially be concrete because of the lime dust and small stone.

A 15 ton load of screenings delivered here is about $140. (Probably 15 miles from the quarry)

You can use the leftovers to dump around all you other post, and they will set the same way.

That's funny stuff right there Josef. I'm glad it all worked out for you. Looks like a root could not have been the culprit as there are no trees in the area, was there a rock involved or just clay?

No rocks, just some bad ass clay.
