Hi Guys,

Wanted to get your thoughts. I have the chance to pick up an l3940 for 22,900, 200 hours hst. This seems like a fair price to me, especially if I can negotiate it down a little bit. My second option is a new l4060, cost about 30k. (Both machines have a loader).

My thought process is, I would rather have the pre tier 4 engine without the dpf, and money savings on the 3940, BUT the 6 year warranty on the new machine is very appealing, as well as the zero percent financing on the new machine.

I am going to look at the 3940 tomorrow. Assuming it looks well maintained, what would you do?

thus far, I have had no issues or complaints about the L4060 at all. personally I'd go with it. love it so far. but the 3940 would be a rock solid machine too.

No doubt the L4060 is a nice machine and for those who use turning brakes, it's brakes are on the left, but on the right on the L3940. Also the clutch has been eliminated on the L4060. The L4060 has the low fuel tank as opposed to the L3940.

Go look at both, see how the hydraulic hoses are routed, difference in cruise control etc. then make up your mind.

I am admittedly prejudiced as I traded in a perfectly good L5030HSTC for an L5740HSTC to avoid the L60 Series.

If you qualify for the credit, five years of free money and the six year warranty for a larger tractor should make the decision for you in my opinion. Plus at the end of the five years you still have greater residual value.

I've never seen a true interest free loan. I've negotiated a "best and final cost" on several and when it came to filling out the paper, I've said "how about I just write you a check" and the cost somehow manages to change.

Now it may truly exist, I've just never seen one.

dealer told me if I paid cash he would knock off 1k and give me a free dealership t-shirt. I'm not kidding. a grand up front is significant.....a grand over 5 years isn't shit. so I took the financing.

TripleR, I agree with you 100%. I am always amazed when folks believe someone is going to give you their money and not charge a thing for it! AND, they can do this time and time again and still be in business 5 years down the road.

Different strokes; a grand is a grand no matter when and if I can, I'm sure going to keep it. I also believe if you finance, you have to keep it insured, so extra money there.

Just the way I approach things, we all have our preferences.

true on the insurance....but I don't think it's a bad thing. kubotas rate and what they cover is pretty dang good. considering I would have insured it anyway.....i'm good with kubotas rates.

I took a look at it and drove it. It seems in good shape, but, it's faded enough that it's pretty clearly been left outside, which I don't like. Leening towards the new unit.

Everyone's situation is going to differ a bit. My homeowners insurance covers mine on our property and liability covers transport between farms. We own property to the north, east, south and west, so any time any are on the road they are on the way to one or the other.

As to faded paint, I never worry about that, never waxed a tractor in my life, But my brother did some work on mine and while it was there, he couldn't handle the paint, so he waxed it and it looks like new.
