Hey guys & gals,
I just made a deal on an new L2501DT, FEL, mower, box blade, and forks. This is my first tractor. What will I need? First thing that come to mind is a grease gun. Chains & boomers for the trailer. Maybe a portable air tank? What else do you guys suggest is handy to have around for a tractor?
Thanks,
Brazos

Congrats!!! I also have a 2501 and LOVE it! As far as what you need it will depend upon what you intend to do. I made a " ballast" box out of steel and filled with concrete to add approx 850#, what a major difference it makes when doing heavy loader work. Good luck with your new ride.

Should have added fuel cans to my list. This tractor will be off property and and long way from anywhere so that is why I am making a list so I don't have to drive to town. Shear bolts for the mower will need to be on my list.

Well congrads to your new toy,,,errrr tool I meant tool,, A good place to store it out of the sun and weather, with good doors and LOCKS, and maybe an alarm system. Yeah I know it sounds like I am paranoid but I lost a yellow tractor because I was a trusting soul,, but if they want it they will get it anyway,,,
What are you planning on doing with the little beast that will also help in helping you figure out what else you might need.
And remember pictures we loves our tractor porn !!

I do plan to build a metal carport for it before I even take it out there. I bought 11 acres. It's a beautiful piece of property with giant oak trees, rocks, etc. that said it is a raw piece of land with tons of cedars. I bought the tractor to start cleaning the place up. I will need a dozer to knock down a lot of the cedars but the first job for the tractor is to just assist me the clean the place up. Once this is done and the house is built it will have traditional tractor duties such as mowing and plowing the garden.

Here is a list of items I would recommend.

Chains(12-14ft each) and ratcheting type binders
Grease gun with longer hose(24in)
Lock and lube connector for grease gun
No-spill brand 5gal diesel fuel cans
Steering wheel knob
Hodge 3pt stabilizers
Additional lightning (LED) if you plan on working at night or at least a rear light

These are in so specific order and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. You will find out in time what you need and what to improve on.
I've added tons of thing to my tractor

look into the BXpanded Piranha for your FEL. you will be amazed at what you can do with cedars. They make them for any loader size.

The piranha tooth bar from BX Expanded looks very interesting. I can see those in my future. Though I don't have a ton of farm tractor experience I do have heavy equipment experience. A toothed bucket can do a lot of work.

I dont know if any one mentioned it but a grapple for the FEL will do you wonders in cleaning up after the dozer get done for piling up stuff to burn tree tops and such. Everything else has been pretty well covered,, though i will say this,, take it slow getting what you need or think you might need, no point in having a piece laying in the pole shed and not being used. We have all done that and say to our selves now why did I buy that?

Chains and hooks, and clevises, you can never have to many
A good set of bucket hooks will make a world of difference
Fuel cans yep
Grease gun, and a good clip on yup
A boom pole,,hmmm maybe
Trailer to haul stuff around YEPPERS
More lights,, like said LEDS on the ROPS is a wonderful way to light up the night
Thing is, the list can go on and on, and something i might find useful here might not be work there, so just think things through. You already have a good start on your tractor.
Just remember this,, your tractor, it will do an amazing amount of work for you as long as you remember it is a SMALLish TRACTOR and not a big old end loader.
Think each job through, first,,, well a couple time really and then have at it. The more you play,,,,errrr I mean work with it, yeah I meant WORK with it the more you will learn.
So slow and easy untill you understand what she, and you, can and cannot do.
Enjoy and pictures man pictures,, we loves our tractor porn :D

I would add:
An extra quart or gallon of every fluid that it takes.
Spare fuel filters and outer air filter element.
Get all of your manuals punched for a three ring binder and keep them together.
