Help removing a locking ring

Hi,
Part 150 on the diagram needs to come out.
Any suggestions?
It looks to be .125" steel ring I tried compressing part C to the other c with clamps but I still could not get any working room to get a tool in there.
This is a steering cylinder from a L4200DT.

Looks like collar is threaded, or those are o-ring grooves. It would be bottomed against a shoulderwith an o ring in there.if o ring is hard, it may not compress. Perhaps a heat gun to warm top of cylinder and a hydraulic press to compress it a tad. Also a little soak with penetrating oil may loosen it. I would try to get lock ring to spon in groove, then maybe it will exit the bore.

Are you sure there isnt a hole somewhere on the housing where you could drive a punch thru?

Wouldnt be hard to carefully drill a hole if there isnt one...

It looks like the style retainer where you use a small pick to grab one of the ends of the ring to lift it out. If so, once you get the pick tool under the end or the ring, you just twist a little to roll the ring out of the groove.

this is what it looks like to me, and that is a good description on how to get it out. I will add keep your hand over the opening it might want to jump out as you relieve pressure on it. If that happens then it becomes comes a Jesus clip, Jesus where did it go? sounded like it landed over there.

Warm it up some, press the fitting down, and use a pick to roll out the snap ring.
And no it's not easy!

This is also a great time to test your blood sugar..... Just have the little meter switched "on" and sitting on the workbench next to you so its ready..

I have done this before. Get the braising tip on a torch heat the end up cherry red and use a flat tip screwdriver to bend up and out, then let it cool down and grab it with pliers and work it out of the groove with the screwdriver and pliers.

I did look at the parts break down and the kit should contain a new retaining ring.

Plumbcut nailed it. And im not diabetic. But as a mechanic,i seem to spring some kind of leak almost daily. Especially picks.
