Kubota M4030SU replaced the hydraulic pump now the tractor won't start. Never before have I had a problem starting the tractor. Has a new battery, plenty of fuel, tries to start but doesn't. Is there something I could have done wrong when replacing the hydraulic pump? What might the problem be?

Welcome to the forum. I would double check everywhere you turned wrenches, you could have put a bend in a linkage, or disconnected a solenoid wire. If you wait awhile, someone with experience, on your machine will chime in...:D:D

Explain more about "won' start". Does it spin or not? Slow spin or fast? Any smoke out of exhaust?

Try it with the lift lever in the down position so the pump is not under load. Mine wouldn't start, spinning too slow, and when jumped it was squealing due to bypass valve actuating. Probably would have started if I had put lever in down position.

Could be something simple like that, three point control in full up position or some other hydraulic control actuated.

If fuel lines were removed then there is air in fuel lines.

yes it spins, there is smoke from the exhaust, all levers in in the down position. after replacing the pump it started the first time I tried ran really rough, sounded terrible so I turned it off and it has never started sense then. I've never worked on tractors before so I'm clueless as what to do. The only lines I removed were the ones going to the pump, 2 on the top and one on the bottom it appeared to be a simple job . it's a 2 stage pump I was told I needed to replace it cause my steering & 3 pt wasn't working but the tractor ran great. I welcome any suggestions or directions

Any chance there was a shipping plug in the pump that you didn't remove?

Check this thread: http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19519&highlight=rubber+plug
Yeah either this or its a bad pump. Sounds like something caused a stoppage on the pressure side and its putting too much load on the engine. First time, it started because there was a little bit of air and it had to prime, then it built pressure and tried killing the motor. Shut her down, then the restart failed with too much pressure/load on the engine now. Same thing sorta happens if a PTO implement gets stuck, like an auger. Hate to say it but it looks like you might be opening her up again.. Keep us posted, and good luck!

Really appreciate your help. I thought I took all the shipping plugs out but......
the only way to be sure is to take it back off. I'll let you know how that works out. Thanks again for your help! Stand by.........

well I can now say for sure I left no shipping plugs in. I pulled the pump & put it back on with the same results the tractor won't start. maybe they gave me the wrong pump?. I have a Kubota M4030su serial #M40-23295 Engine F2402-D1-A
I can't see any numbers on the old pump ,
the new pump is Kubota part no 35430-82202 can anyone tell me if this is the correct pump for my tractor?

Is the new pump rotatable by hand?
You might try to start it without any pump BUT I would let one of the really knowledgeable people say that is a good idea first.

I know nothing about an M4030SU, but the next thing I would try is to test the hydraulics. If the engine has a decompression valve open the valve shut off the fuel and roll the engine with the battery. You will not have much power and the hydraulics will be slow but they should move. If you don't have a decompression valve you would have to remove the injectors or glow plugs, I don't have any idea if that is a good or easy option on a M4030SU.
