I just had my 50 hr service on my L3301 at the Kubota Dealer but they didn't change the HST filter. The owners manual recommends changing it after the first 50 then every 200. My question is should they have changed it? I haven't had any problems but I think I'll replace it.

If you took it in for a 50 hour service, and the manual calls for it to be replaced at 50 hours, then yes, they should have. I wonder why they didn't? Forget? Cost savings?
Yes, just change it. It's easy but it's usually on pretty tight. Most of the originals, I find it easier to use channel lock pliers as opposed to a filter wrench. Be sure to clean around the filter before removing the old one. Have seen a piece of hay get stuck between the filter and the filter mount, causing a very slight leak...apparently it doesn't take much.

Yes it should have been changed. And I had to get mine loose with a 24" pipe wrench. It was stupid tight.
If you do it(or can talk to whatever technician does), smear a light film of grease on the rubber gasket of the new filter upon installation to keep it from sticking when it's the next time to replace it.

If you paid for this service and they gave you a receipt check and see if it's on there you may have paid for the filter and they forgot to put it on Also check make sure they give you oil change and new oil filter.

My dealer did change mine with the 50 hr check up but not the fluid. I did change my tranny/HST fluid last year. But I think I did a filter only change once too. Please note:if I remember right. Once you break the seal on the hydrolic/hst filter, the fluid 'pours' out. I'm not sure how the dealer changes it without loosing fluid to just change the filter only , but if you change the filter your self have your other filter ready to go on. Quick !
Is it possible there is some confusion with filter name terminology? Generally the transmission filter is changed at 50 and 200h, and the hydraulic filter is changed at 400h only.
They both filter HST fluid, one on the suction side (transmission) and the other on the pressure side (hydraulic). Names are frequently messed up. In my two Kubota applications the hydraulic filter (pressure) has always been yellow, the other usually white or black.
Also, my previous L3410 (2002) required an HST fluid change at 50h, not so with the new L4060 (2016). the fluid spec for the L4060 is every 400h.

I am coming up on my 50 hr service but I was given some advice on changing the hydraulic filters when I did the service on my L3200. A guy told me to park on a slight side hill with the filter your changing facing up the hill. I did that and lost very little, if any hydraulic fluid. It was a great tip. Passing it on to you now.
Those filters and oil changes are simple to do. I prefer to do them myself that way I know it's done correctly. For me, it would not be worth my time to load the tractor back up and take it back down to the dealer for something I could do in less than 3 minutes. My suggestion would be, swing by and pick up the filter you need and change it yourself.

Per advice here I parked the tractor on a slope with that side high. Broke it loose( this was with a pipe wrench with a foot on the wheel for leverage!). Then with a pan in place under it and the new filter sitting in the pan ready, I spun the old one off and quick changed the other one on. Lost less than a 1/2 beer can. Tightened up by hand & then a oil filter wrench for "just a touch"
Parked tractor back level and rechecked fluid. (It is hard to see on new stick but shining a strong light on it helps). Mine was still fine.

True. Or do it yourself, so you know what gets done and when.
My tractor has never been back to the dealer. I've been lucky that I haven't any repair issues I couldn't take care of myself.
