My MX4800 is due for its first 50hr service. I went to a Kubota dealer and bought Kubota parts. My question is, the manual says to change the engine oil and filter, and to change the transmission filter but not the fluid. Is this correct? The guy at the parts counter was no help.

Without looking your machine up - I would say that is correct!!!
Engine oil - change out the break-in oil - filter, the hydraulic oil just needs to be filtered a little better! I would imagine that your machine uses a few quarts of hydraulic fluid??? OK - kidding, more like 40+, I am not sure you want to change that oil just yet!
Kubota changed their oil schedule a while back, NOT recommending Hydraulic oil changes at 50 hours. Only filter/changes and screen cleanings.
