I am servicing my L48, I want to change all fluids, filters, and screens. I keep hearing mixed opinions about what type of HST oil to use. Some say ONLY Kubota Super UDT, others say ONLY Kubota UDT and some say Mystic (unsure exact type.) Any opinions or answers out there?

Many say anything that meets the specs. Your machine - your wallet. Basically only you get to choose. O - and you forgot another choice, S-UDT 2:D:)

It's really a matter of opinion.

I use Mystik JT-5 and have had outstanding results without killing my pocket book.

after doing some of my Hydro experiments, and add-on's to my tractor... I needed to add a couple quarts to my system. I used the Walmart brand (Supertech) Heavy-Duty Tractor Transmission and Hydraulic fluid. There was a mix in my tractor for a year, and after doing my service... it's all Supertech. It runs just fine, and I think the HST is a little less whiney now.

It's not really cheap... but it's convenient to get. (about $26 for 2.5 gal jug)

Just my 2 cents.

"Your machine - your wallet" sums things up nicely, but here's why staying with the factory recommended SUDT and/or SUDT2 always made sense to me.
1. The hydraulics are the heart of these tractors; if the plumbing gets boogered up, nothing works properly.
2. Having spent what for me was major money on these tractors, I couldn't see going with bargain-priced hydraulic juice just to save a (comparatively), few bucks.
3. Of course you can't believe everything you read on the internet, but there have been a fair number of folks who said their HST made more noise when operated with a lower grade of hyd fluid. Even Kub UDT was reportedly not as good as SUDT or SUDT2.

There are some good non-OEM products available that some folks favor. If it's indeed equal or better than the factory stuff, could be worth a try.

Oils are like pickup trucks......everyone has their own subjective opinion of what they like, and you can't tell 'em any different. Working for a dealer, I can tell you that we see FAR less issue out of tractors that use the recommended fluids....I can't say that the off-brands cause any problems, though. Perhaps it's a combination of a bunch of things including but not limited to how the owner or operator uses the tractor.

Wise man once told me that you have 2 types of people. One takes good care of his stuff and rarely sees any problems out of his equipment. The other can't keep anything running for any length of time without something being broken. Bad luck maybe, I don't know. That's just what one person told me.
