Hello this is my first post. I have a very new L3901 tractor and the other day when my son was running it it went thru it's first regen. It has 25 hrs on it. He said it made a popping kinda sound. Is this normal? He said it wasn't very loud at all.

He said the sound was coming from the exhaust. Said the engine sounded and ran normal.

My L3301 will make an occasional pop during regen. Mine did it at 20 and 44 hours. Basically they are dumping raw fuel in the cat during the regen cycle, building a ton of heat to burn off the buildup.

What RPMs do you guys operate your tractor? I start mine, let it idle a few minutes, then up the RPMs to 1500 until the temperature needle starts to move into the operating zone, then I start to work at 2000 RPMs. If I have anything heavy to lift, plow, or PTO work I move the RPMs into the PTO range.

I try to keep the RPM's close to PTO speed, but most of the time I'm using the tractor to move logs or firewood around. Since most of that is in the woods it is a little harder to do with a L3901DT. When I'm grading the driveway or private road I run it at least at PTO speed.

Northern Rednek, does your son wear ear protection when he is using the tractor? I always have ear plugs in and maybe I just can't tell that it is popping. I got my L3901DT DEC 2014, maybe there was a change to the code in the ECM.

My tractor has gone through 9 regens since I have had it.
No code has to be inserted here.
