I recently joined in the ownership of a Kubota, 1998 B2400 that I knew had some issues, had to replace starter, fuel pump and am trying to get it running. It turns over good, fuel at injector seems weak to me (been a few years since I worked a diesel) fuel only lightly squirts out, anyway it try's to fire over with white/gray smoke from exhaust, but just won't hit. My question is it not getting enough fuel or maybe low compression? Thanks in advance for your help.

First things first, bleed the fuel system as per manual. Check glow plugs, easy to do with IR thermometer. If it still won't start, then compression check would be in order. Welcome to the forum, you'll get the right answer sooner or later, keep plugging away...:D:D

Have bleed fuel system, that's why I thought fuel flow seemed a little weak, am going to go ahead and do a compression test next, will pull injector pump if compression test is good.

I would suggest pulling the injectors out first and testing them before jumping into the pump.

What is the condition of the battery? It might not be turning quite fast enough to start.Probably not the case but that does happen.

Finally got around to compression test, dry and wet test, #1=290 psi, #2=100 and #3=240, not much change on wet test. There was excessive carbon on the glow plug on #2 (had to pry it out) hoping its a valve or valves, blown head gasket or something of that nature, am going to pull head next, wish me luck.

I hate working on B series tractors, for this reason. Everything is like a puzzle. Getting the 4x4 shaft completely out of the tractor is a royal pain in the back side. There is a roll pin at the HST, shaft will not come off without removal of the roll pin, roll pin inaccessible for the most part. Don't remember ever taking the pan off of one in the frame, have had to pull the engine on a few though I don't remember what for.

I got a price on a new engine after talking with a local diesel engine rebuilder, the new engine is (D1105-D10) $3895 complete from local Kubota dealer, with a rebuild of about $2500 (includes cost of rebuilt injector pump, injectors, etc) do these prices seem appropriate, does anyone know of better price on the new engine, I think I will go that route. Thanks
