L175 Alternator Availability

My tractor has one of the earlier alternators for this model. The NipponDenso part number is 021000-2551. I think the Kubota part number is 15221-64011. This alternator has a rectangular 4 pin connector. I can't find a replacement alternator of this type.

Can I use the later alternator part number 15321-64011 with the 3 pin connector and change the wiring harness connector?

Can't answer your question as asked...... but have you considered just having the Alternator repaired. If you look around close there is usually still a shop somewhere that repairs/rewinds starters and alternators.

I have considered getting the alternator rebuilt. I was concerned that the parts might not be available for this old an alternator.

To clarify my original question, is there an available alternator that I could use even if I have to change the connector? The L175 parts list shows Kubota part # 15321-64011 alternator was also used on the L175 and is available but has a three pin connector.

Post a picture of the back of the alternator if you would, because all the pictures that I find for that alternator has a 3 pin plug???

Here is a picture of the alternator. There are no identifying numbers on it.
I have seen 15221-64012 on Amazon and other web sites as the correct alternator for this tractor but again it has three pins.

Have you metered the pin connector with the key on? Some alternators have two power inputs coming into then to excite the alternator (tell it to start charging).

Looks just like the alternator on my L 1500, mine also has the same four pin plug,
however the wiring harness only uses three of those pins.
If I remember correctly as you look at your picture the lower left is not used on mine.
Sorry but my tractor is tore apart right now so I cannot confirm.
Having said that and with the proper schematic diagram of a three pin alternator
you should be able to use it, you will just have to obviously change the plug.

It can be changed to almost any other alternator. You will have to adapt the wiring harness and possibly change out the regulator. If you aren't too worried about it looking correct, you could change it over to a newer style alternator off of a newer Nissan or Toyota. The newer alternators have the regulator built in and produce higher amperage outputs. Nippondenso makes the majority of the starters and alternators for most of the OEM equipment from the Asian market. It shouldn't be too hard to find replacement parts to rebuild the one you have. Any local auto/gen repair shop should be able to do that for you.
