I love everything about my new Cabota except one thing: The treadle control for the trans. It's just clumsy for me and I really, REALLY prefer the two pedal version on my little JD lawn tractor.

Neither approach to reverse is really comfortable: Sticking a toe under the forward part and lifting, or sliding the foot back and using the heel on the reverse part. I have trouble controlling it precisely with the heel and my foot gets real tired after an hour or two of blowing snow with my rear-mounted blower using the toe method.

So, has anyone ever looked into converting the linkage to a two-pedal system? When it gets a little warmer I'm going to get comfy under the tractor and stare at it for a while and see if any ideas float to the top, but there's no point in re-inventing the wheel if someone's already done it.

The 3560 has the rocker mechanism, but I think the pedal is shaped differently. There is a flange that sticks out on the front so I use it like a two pedal, using toe on upper right part for forward, and toe on lower left part for reverse. I couldn't get the drift of rocking my foot, wrong angle or ankle, not sure which. Anyway maybe you could get one of those pedals and put it on yours.

I think I might like a rocker pedal better than the two pedal method my BX has. To be able to have the ball of my foot pushing to go forward or simply rock my foot back to go in reverse. Right now, I have to lift the foot and depress the reverse 'button'. Perhaps they felt a forced pause between operations was a good idea, to prevent an immediate direction change? It could be a safety issue with an operator being thrown from the seat if the direction is changed to quickly (as well as being a big strain on the tractor f the direction of momentum is suddenly changed)

My little hydrostatic Sears garden tractor lifts the front wheels a few feet in the air if I go into reverse quickly while moving forward! :p

You want to rethink that statement?

Yup, bassackwards. Good catch:eek:

When I go to make my turn to empty the grass catcher, I am moving BACKWARD, wheels turned. I lovingly and quickly put it in to FORWARD and it lifts the front wheels off the ground (and swings the front over, sort of like docking a boat).

I think it all depends what direction you are looking at the time.....;)
