Got a call from "Windows IT Department" today  Now to back track a little. I've had a couple missed calls pop up from this one number on my work cell phone. Called the number back and would get a recording saying " the Verizon wireless customer has disconnected this number, had the number changed, or........." So I've suspected that this phone number was a scammer. They call me again this afternoon. Tell me that my computer I'm using "right this moment" is downloading malicious software  I was currently in the wash bay using the pressure washer

My computer is currently shut off. Power strip it's hooked to is turned off. The puter also uses an external WiFi adapter from belkin to hook to my home WiFi. That happened to be in the cup holder in my truck. It's pretty safe to say that my puter wasn't downloading squat ;)

So, now it's time to screw with the scammer :D I asked him "if this was the only time my computer did this?" His answer was yes. (Two missed calls in three weeks)

So then I asked why he was trying to scam me? He stated that this wasn't a scam!!!

I could hear a baby crying in the back ground. So I ask if Microsoft allows people to bring there kids to work with them in the "IT" department? He stated there were no kids there!!

I then asked if he could turn on my web cam? He asked me why I needed to turn the camera on? I then explained that if the computer was currently downloading malicious software, then some punk broke into my house to watch porn!!! And that I needed a description of whose #ss to kick!!!! That got some stuttering on his end :D

I then asked why he was calling from a cell phone? He adamantly disputed that fact. Then hung up when I said "bull sh##" and informed him that I just called his number back on my other phone and got the recording stating his number was disconnected, changed, Yada Yada yada.. :D

Reported him to www.donotcall.gov after he rudely hung up on me :D

This has been a strange day. Just got a second call for computer troubles  This one showed up on my caller idea as originating from China :confused: only reason I answered was because of morbid curiosity on who would be calling me from there  This call came in on my personal cell phone

Actually compared the numbers, they showed up as different formats between the phones. They were the same phone number, and originated from china. Cheap flip phone for work that doesn't show where the call originated from.

I have been seeing strange caller id numbers 7011 (thats it just 7011)

or some other 4 digit numbers. But not a full number or area code.

I don't answer calls if I dont recognize the number. If its important the will leave a message

It's strange, I'm wondering how the bozos got both my cell numbers. Now they didn't know who the numbers belonged to. The second call didn't identify what company they were calling from. Just said they were calling about my computer troubles, and asked if I was in front of the computer.

My personal phone got put in as a contact for some high school kid in the little rock school district. But that was a failure to put the correct area code in  found out about that when I got a call from the school for the kid skipping. That explained why I started getting text messages for the happenings in the school district out of the blue.

Those calls are computer generated they start with a block of numbers and it starts dialing, if no answer it hangs up and goes to the next and so on, untill someone answers, thats why it takes a few seconds for someone to answer when you say,,,, hallo is dis jew? And if you answer in some sort of gibberish talk they usually hang up. SO even if your number is blocked these kinds of scams can and do get through. At least this is how it was explained to me by the phone company representative I spoke to. Also some will keep you on the line for as long as they can and you wind up with a hugh bill and they get the money. May all their livers rot.
I will mess with them by saying Hello you have reached the Pittsburgh FBI field office please stay on the line and an agent will be with you shortly. And then wait a second and say something like this is agent Smith, are you the one reporting the drug related murder,, they hang up and usualy never call back

I keep getting calls like:

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT NOTICE! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD BUT YOU MUST HOLD ON TO FIND OUT IF A BETTER RATE IS AVAILABLE!!!

I have tried everything to get these clowns to stop calling but, they keep it up.

I'll try referring them to the do not call registry.

Most of the calls are done over VOIP and they can put any number they want to show up in the caller ID.

One of the guys I work with fired up a Windows VM and let the caller get into the "system". He kept the guy on the phone for almost an hour. There is another guy I work with kept telling the caller that the URL that he gave him didn't work. The caller finally gave up and hung up.

Computer security people always have fun with type of call. There are a lot of people that fall for this type of call and loose money because of them.

We had one on the house phone the other day. They were claiming to be a charity helping out fire and rescue services. Wife talked to them and they seemed fishy to her. We don't donate to national charity's like that. We always donate locally so we can benefit from the new gear and to help out the local fire department. Rescue services is a paid company anyway, so we don't donate to them.

A couple days later, there was a big story about this same "charity" on the news. They were saying that this company was a scam and to not donate to them.

Ray, I report companies to the do not call list all the time. All phones are registered with the site in our household. Even my work phone. On my work phone, I used to get around 30 calls a day for those "extended warranty companies". And I automatically report robo callers. Even if they are for the local politicians :D:D

I used to be able to ignore all unknown numbers on my cell and home phones and let them go to voicemail. However, I accepted some new roles at church and work, including being primary or secondary on-call 50% of the time, that require me to answer the phone. A lot of the folks who call from work have cell phones from anywhere in the country and many are from India. I love those 2:00 AM calls from folks I can't understand...

Then there's this classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmKtS-k12b0

I like Mabe's gag, but just don't have that much time or talent. I keeps a $0.99 harbor freight rape whistle near each phone. I let them go through their spiel, till they ask me the first question, then I gives them a lungfull. If they are still on the line, I repeats the process. Some of the dumb ones it takes 5 or 6 times, till they hang up...:D:D

I get all the scammers. If I have the time, I'll play along, act clueless. When they tell me to start my computer, I'll tell them OK, I start it up, then mutter about the outlet and getting the plug to fit and I hop I do not blow a fuse. Then after ten minutes I tell them it is running. They ask if I am on the internet and I tell them I have to turn on the modem, and then open and close desk drawers, swear a little and tell them I found it and to give me a chance to hook it up. Then I tell them is it is connected and what number should I dial to connect to them. They will tell me to get on the internet so I just dial ten random numbers on the phone in my hand. A minute later, I tell them the line is in use, what should I do? Other times, I let them get me close to where they want me to go but I keep 'mis-sppelling the website name'.
You'd think they'd flag my number to not robo call it but they still call, I still screw them over.
Idiots.

When I get those calls I tell them "just a second and I'll get the head of the house" then I just lay the phone down. After a while they hang up.
