So just bought my first tractor a L2501. Had it one day plowing snow and I think it gelled up so first thing in the morning I will get it taken care of. But I was wondering what everybody thinks of the 2501 good or bad thank you

To prevent gelling, I use Diesel Kleen. Comes in a white, silver and red bottle. If you have gelled fuel in your tractor I would buy a bottle of the red and pour it in.

I now have 90 hours on mine. It has been trouble free and works like a mule. Plenty of power for loader work and grading. Only weak spot is bush hogging uphill. It pulls a 5 ft bush hog fine on level ground but needs a little more power uphill.

I added some 911 and got it running. So far I really like it but all I have done is plow snow. I also have a friend that works on kubota and he told me they can turn the hp on the 2501 to around 33 hp has anybody done this. They are turned down to keep them under the 30hp so no dpf. Is what I was told

I have 10 hours on mine an I love it. I use the fel mainly, but have used the box scaraper on the driveway.

He gets caught doing it....and the USEPA will make him wish he was dead. Big no-no. Possible to do it? Absolutely. And I have the stuff to do it. But not as easy as a pump swap. Governor, springs, stoppers, pump, etc. And 33hp is conservative.

L2501 is a GREAT tractor. Little underpowered but nonetheless a great little tractor. Basically an L3200 with 24.8hp, and a little noisier.

If you stick a sign up on the highway advertising the fact that you've done it will surely get you in trouble, if you don't...................

And also consider a few things:

L2501's maximum governed RPM is what? 2200 RPM?

The L3200's max governed RPM is somewhere closer to 3000.

The L2501's transmission is geared as such to run approximately the same speed as the L3200, but at less engine RPM. Same for the PTO. Change the governor and pump assembly to the L3200, which will allow more RPM and therefore horsepower...without changing the transmission gears, etc, and then you'll have a tractor that will run closer to 3000 RPM, make about 35 hp, and the PTO will spin about 800 RPM instead of 540. Your implement will really sing, at least for a little while (until it comes apart). And if it's a gear driven tractor (not HST) it will go a lot faster, probably closer to 17-18 mph which is way too fast on that little lightweight tractor. Dangerous on all accounts. And honestly, the more I thought about doing it to mine, the less sense it makes. Even after the warranty expires.

If one needs a couple extra horsepower, get the L3301 or L3901, which is a smoother running, quieter tractor with more power and a MUCH better governor. But you get a DPF to deal with (no big deal).

Love the 2501 but IMO, not worth messing with for a measly couple more horsepower, not for what it costs to do it right. I'd just as soon find a used L3200 or L3800, or better yet, trade it for the L3301/L3901 if I needed more horsepower. The L2501 is popular, therefore keeps it's value VERY well right now when it comes to trade in.
