I have a L4400 with a start problem. I turn the key switch to the "on" position. The fuel solenoid relay is closing and the fuel solenoid rod is retracting inside the body of the solenoid, as it should. After about 3-4 seconds the relay opens and the solenoid releases. I don't know what is causing the relay to open.

If I bypass the relay, the tractor will crank and run. Some internet info that I have read points to the OPC timer as the potential problem. How do you test the OPC timer? Thanks.

Commonly the HST switch being a little too sensitive. It is adjustable to make it less sensitive. When you crank the engine, there is just enough of a "jerk" and "vibration" in the tractor/transmission to "trip" the switch, which then shuts the fuel solenoid off.

DT's, have seen the neutral switch act up a little.

So before going much further, I'd suggest a quick look into those two items.

I'm having the same problem. Behind the dash are relays. There's a grey relay that I believe is the problem. I pulled the relay out and used the hot wire in place of the relay and the tractor continues to run. So obviously this relay went bad. I'm waiting for new relay from dealership since I can't find it online.

Is the OCP timer a relay? I'm having same problem, fuel shut off solenoid not activating. Replaced fuel filter first, the shut off solenoid. Multimeter test showed voltage momentarily to it then went off. My guess is it is getting a small amount of fuel then closing the fuel supply down. Runs for a second then only cranks. Runs fine with fuel shut off solenoid disconnected from the fuel injector pump.

Is the OCP timer a relay?

More than that because it has logic. It can be checked by itself by following the procedure in the workshop manual (WSM).
