The rule of thumb is 5 HP per foot of cutter. Thus a 5 foot bush hog requires 25 HP. Now this is subjective to the type of vegetation and speed of cutting, it's just a rule of thumb. Hope that helps you.

That will do just fine - the 25 HP will be a plenty of engine HP ,22 PTO will be enough to spin the 5 footer......old FORD 8ns had less HP
Thanks for the great help.
Sounds good.

I just noticed what tractor you have. I had a L245DT and cut with a 5'. It did just fine. Be sure to watch the temperature of the motor. I know they have a overheat whistle on them, but I never let it get that hot. You can tell when it's hot by feeling the heat and the smell. Clean off the radiator screen often.

I have a BX2670. Anyone have or know for sure a 5' brush hog will be no problem for it? Average field weed mowing, nothing large. Would one that fits a 9N also fit a BX? Thanks.

No problem ? Not a problem turning, but.....

Your BX will turn it fine....you have problem that the "L" series will not have, that is sheer weight - your BX is a bit lighter than the L - so - if you hook it up and head up a slight incline.....you'll find the front end up in the air.

Before you get it all hooked up - make sure you have made provisions for weight on the front. You gonna need some suitcase weights or something on the front end. Without that weight- I would not want to pick up a "real" 5' hog.

Your BX will pick it up fine, just the front end is too light - much like those that want to use a FEL without a rear ballast - problems happen!:)
