The pto shaft that you hook implements to sheared off on my 6950. It sheared where the groove is located that the yoke pin goes into.

How hard is it to replace the shaft and can it be purchased somewhere other than Kubota ? The dealer wants over $500.00 for the pto shaft.

That would be like a non-wear part. So as far as a common replacement item i couldnt see it available through aftermarket dealers.
Perhaps a used one from a tractor wrecker?
There are online kubota parts dealers, maybe they will be less expensive.

Perhaps someone with a better lead will chime in. Good luck.

It looks like your dealer is trying to get list price + 50%. My dealer tries to get list price + 100%. Needless to say, I order my parts from Coleman Equipment. I can't understand why greed has taken over this country so much.

Have seen automotive dealers adding 15-20% to retail prices, claim its to cover overhead.

Its a shame local dealers fail to attract busines with this tactic.

I don't know how new the unit is, but the PTO shaft shouldn't sheer off, the pins on PTO devices should give or the clutches should slip. Shearing the PTO is a sign something is really wrong with your PTO drive setup. Check your shear pins and make sure they are not more than Grade 2. If you have clutched implements, re-calibrate your clutch setups and make sure they are loose and not stuck together.

$500 could be cheap if you saw the bill for stripping out your PTO drive gears. Coleman's or Messick's are usually the place to get spare parts for a reasonable price.

Wenger's of Myerstown, PA lists one in stock for $170. (link here)

Check to see if your pto shaft is too long and pushes down on the pto when the back end of an attachment like a rotary mower raises up. The pto shaft is hardened so it won't bend much before it snaps.

I agree to check implement pto shaft for binding. What type implement was attached to your tractor at the time of shaft breakage??

I believe the yoke was not locked in place and it slipped back to the end of the PTO shaft before twisting off.
If i had to guess how it broke, it would have been something along that line. Just slipping the pto shaft on and running it has crossed my mind, thinking better of it now.

Is it difficult to replace the shaft?
It would be good to have a look at a M6950 shop manual but from the parts list on the Kubota website it looks like a straight-forward job. Drain the oil and the gearbox unbolts. My L5450's pto has a very similar shaft/gearbox setup. There's a thread on TBN here with pictures showing my pto gearbox removed and apart. Removing the sealant took more time than anything else. Your gearbox is a bit bigger but the job should be similar. Take care, Dick B
