Hello,

New to the forum and looking for a tractor. I recently bought some property and plan to build a house. I need something to mow grass, plow snow, and do some general utility work. I have quite a bit of experience with compact utilities, but no subcompact utilities and no experience with a FEL or backhoe.

Found a BX23 for sale, 600 hours, 60" mowing deck, and most of it looks like new. Parts of the backhoe look like they are brand new. I checked it out in person last week. Asking price is $13500. I got him down to $12700.

I've been watching Craigslist for a little while and I never see anything with a backhoe in his condition for this price, if at all. I read some prices that are lower here, but they just don't seem to mesh with what I see locally on Craigslist. Obviously what I see on Craigslist are asking prices and not prices paid, but even so.

What do you guys think?

I think it is a smidge high.......your tractor is 10 years old - that aint a bad thing, but still age counts typically. Then again - checking prices, it is in line with the cost, hell it might be on the low of average side.

with the MMM , it is a good deal!

Yeah, after watching prices here for a while, I felt like it was fantastic deal. Then after reading some of the deals here, I feel like it's average at best. But maybe I need to take location into consideration; perhaps prices are just higher in this area for some reason? I haven't seen a Kubota with a factory backhoe and mower for this price and in this shape since I've been watching for one. In fact it's not all that often I see them at all.

This is probably going down tomorrow, so I'm just doing last minute verifications that this is a fair deal. It's a lot of money to me and much more than I set out to spend originally, but I think having the backhoe may be worth it.

Thanks

Sometimes the backhoe costs (new) 6k - 7.5k, many say if you have few needs for one, rent one, others say if you need one, get it!:D

If you have been watching - I too scan the CL stuff all the time and know that if you wait - it will go away!!!

It is a lot of money, but two years from now, if you find it is NOT worth your time - you will still get 85%-90% back from selling it.

I would and almost did (when I was in the market - almost bought a terramite) - then turned around and spent 4 times more!!!!!:D;)

So I understand your problem. I think (unless it is a lemon) you will be happy with the things it can do. There are parts to "bolt on" that make it even better!

just my 2 cents

Just for a comparison -- I'm in a totally different part of the country from you but thought it might be interesting to tell what I just bought thats similar to what this post is discussing.

I'm in N La and was wanting a SCUT with FEL and BH. I quickly saw that Kubota was THE go to choice, and the BX looked like it would cover my needs. Within a workable distance range (5-6 hundred miles) there were 2 BX25Ds - One in Mo and the other in S La. Mo had 800ish hours but had a MMM and 3 pt, S La had only 112hrs and a BH thumb for accessories. (The thumb was a 'have to have' for my needs. S La was $15900 and Mo was $15000.

Pretty quickly I leaned toward the low hrs. Owner came down to $15500 and that clinched it. The 112 hrs show on the tractor, it is very clean. I feel like I got a decent price on it, certainly not "gloat worthy" but I'm pleased. I've already put 25 hrs on it in the 2 wks I've had it, and my gosh!! this thing is SWEET!!:D:D

Mind you, these 2 - SCUT with FEL & BH - were the ONLY 2 in my mileage range of 5-6 hundred mi.

Thanks for the replies guys. From here on, I only want to hear if it was a good deal. If it was a bad deal, don't tell me, because I bought it. ;)

Now to move to the maintenance and operating forums. :)

Well, i'm wondering how i did with my purchase...it was on ebay....i've bid on a few bx24 and 25's in the past year but they all seemed to go for more than i was willing to pay( i'm not cheap, just frugal.....)and i always was outbid......then along came a 2008 bx24 with 210 hrs. from a new jersey person who only used it for mostly snow removal and landscaping at a funeral home.......bidding started at 7500, and i started bidding....only 3 people were bidding on it...what was different though was there was no reserve....bidding ended during the middle of the night and next morning i had an email saying I WON!!!!....$10100....and it came with a modern implement 5 ft. rake....$625 to "USHIP" to deliver to buffalo new york area and it was at my house in 3 days....unbelieveable......
