I purchased a B7100 4wd to maintain 5 acres I was in the process of purchasing. Well, at the last minute, the deal fell thru due to some inspection surprises and I will be moving to my mother's 20 acres to help her out. Since I always troll tractors for sale, I came across a BX2200 with 900 hours that I can get for $3000. I am wondering if this will be a better fit for the larger property, as I will be getting a post hole digger to re-do her fencing and add cross-fencing for my horses and goat, doing some clearing of thick brush, maintaining the growth around the pond, brush hogging, dragging limbs to a burn pile, etc.

Any thoughts on which would be better suited, or neither one? Keep in mind I'm a poor rescue person and can't afford newer, lol! :D

The 7100 is a rock - awesome tractor.......
I think if you can get the BX for that little money - DO IT! The B has larger tires, but the BX has "newer" stuff ....power steering ....etc......

I think you will find the BX a little better

It's in very good shape, has connections for a loader (never had one on it), has turf tires that he said he has to top off every couple of weeks. I would put ag tires on it and can only find them online, surprised they're not readily available, but no biggie. Thinking about buying it, trying both of them out on the projects, then keeping the one I like best. Shouldn't be difficult to sell one where I'm going, because they're not readily available.

A BX for 20 acres? I think my L3200 probably is overworked at 10 acres! If you're just going to do small jobs, some lawn mowing (under 2 acres) that BX will do fine. If you are going to work that 20 acres... that BX will come up short really fast. I think a maxxed out L or better yet, an M series unit is better for 20 acres.

I have a bx 2200 and take care of 30 acres with it. Use is as follows: mow 5 acres at least once a week in the summer, brush hog another 3 to 4 twice a year plus about a mile or more of timber roads, and also clean snow and grade a gravel drive that is about 2/10 of a mile long. The tractor is a lot smaller than what it replaced (Ford 8n) but I have found out that I can do more with this smaller tractor.

Appreciate all of the feedback! The portion that the house is on, which includes the front yard and the area where I am putting up a 42'x20' barn for my large rescues, is around 5 acres. I have a Craftsman GT3000 for mowing the grass and will use the tractor for maintaining her driveway. That leaves around 15 acres and I have 2 horses who will be grazing; I am initially sectioning off the pasture so they're next to the house. Plan to do mostly brush hogging, lot of digging post holes, and using the box blade to level some areas. The initial clearing and leveling for my dog barn and to clean up the pond area is being done now by someone with big equipment.

My BX2200 does every task I have put to it. Cleared brush, large rocks, roto-tilling new lawn, pushing snow, mowing grass and pulling a drag harrow.

With only 900hrs if not neglected or abused it is a steal.

Maybe it because I am Canadian, differance in the dollar etc,but that price sounds just too good to be true,in my area I'd be doing a lien check, making sure everything was right with the tractor and the deal, don't get scammed

It does sound like a very very good deal in any currency.
